ELI vs UGag, either 1975 or most probably 1977.

There's none of that damned privett weed UGag calls a hedge in the background, so it's Grant Field in '75 or '77.

Ivery was not the feature back as a FR in '75 - those were Pat Moriarty, the first David Sims, and Bucky Shamburger.

This is most likely the 16-7 win in '77.

1977. 1975 was a Thanksgiving Night game. We got way behind, Meyers was hurt, and Rudy Allen led a valiant comeback. Also, by ‘75 Adrian Rucker was in the mix at running back.

I played against Shamburger in HS. He graduated from Westminister HS, I graduated from Osborne HS in Cobb Co in 1975. We shutout Shamburger and Westminister 17-0. So Shamburger would have been a freshman in the fall of 1975. Were freshman eligible to play per NCAA rules then? I can't remember what year freshman were allowed to play varsity.

Used the 2021 GT Media Guide for lineups, plus the various 1975-1977 stats files from the GTAA FB archive site.....

Freshmen eligibility came back in 1972, the most notable of which nationally was Archie Griffin at tOSU.

In '75 Shamburger rushed 69 times for 432 yds, ELI 43 for 301.

By '77 Shamburger had 72 carries for 378, but ELI was up to 155 for 900.

As for GT Frogs, and I was a Student-Assistant OL (Gs & Cs) coach with that team, the only ones to regularly dress with the varsity were Steve Raible & the late (not only describes his current physical state, but also how he showed up for meetings & practice!) EEEEEEEEEOOOOOOO Wheeler. IIRC, Rudy Allen & maybe the late Tony Lubischer and Red McDaniel dressed but did not play. In that 5-to-play-4 era, if a Frog played a down in a varsity game, that burned a year of eligibility. Future A-A C Leo Tierney was still lining up on the DL, future DE/OLB Jack Cox was playing G, future G/TE Elliot Price was a FB, and Mark Hunter was getting his feet wet as a former FB playing G.

"Tech in Ivory Tower" were the newspaper headlines after the 16-7 win over the dawgs in '77.
Tech and ELI should have beat them again in '78 after leading 20-0, and Pepper probably does get fired in '79.
I was there, they injured him on purpose.

A little game prep here: "Funny, I saw the 'Tech Football Photo' and expected to open up and see a VPI player in Maroon".....
