There has been a great deal of talk about the upcoming game being the biggest at BDS since 'insert game here'..... In my mind this game greatly outweighs ND's visit to BDS in 2006. The reason being is because we are still instituting a new offense with a new coach. These two factors are giving a new face to GT football. This is a program game. By that I mean that how we perform on saturday will go a long way in strengthening our national recognition, recruiting, etc. Plus the fact that Ugag is down this year really opens the door for us to become THE team in the state of Georgia. The implications of this being both a divisional and conference game also give a tremendous amount of gravity to the outcome. ND in 2006 pales in compairison. I wont be crushed by losing any more than I usually am if we lose. But GT/VT epitomizes pivotal game in more ways than one.... your thoughts?

It's definitely the biggest conference game since 1998 (FSU). No doubt about that.

The ND game (2006) was big, just because of the opponent/national interest (GameDay).

This game is bigger, it is further into the season and is against a top 5 team that could determine whether we accomplish our goal of winning the ACC. The last time we beat a legit highly ranked team at home was UVA in '98.
GO JACKETS!

This game by far: 1) Paul Johnson is trying to build a dynasty, while Chan had hit a ceiling (A lot of us, myself included, refused to believe that, hoping for a GT renaissance which never came); 2) It's a conference game; 3) Notre Dame's 2006 team was unusually overrated.

I hope that this game turns about better than that 1998 FSU game.

By any measure, except maybe national publicity but its getting a good bit of that and will get a lot more with an upset win, this is a much bigger game.

It's the biggest conference game since the ACCCG against Wake. ND was big, but meaningless...other than the immense satisfaction of the arsewhoopin' we gave 'em.

Ask this question again on Sunday. I think that's the only way we'll know the answer.

should have said this was the biggest HOME conference game since FSU in 1998. Obviously, the ACC-C game vs. Wake was bigger.

Again, this isn't that big a game. It has a huge upside for us. But in some circles we aren't even expected to be competitive. This should be looked upon as our rematch with Miami. A chance to dethrone the king, and get back into the divisional race.

This game means much more because it will stamp our credibility and erase all doubt about our program and about CPJ's offensive philosophy.

All winning a big game under Gailey did for us was allow us to face plant in the concrete from a higher altitude with the inevitable, inexplicable colossal loss to a vastly inferior team that was right around the corner from every big win.

I say VT this year... 2006 was a big one, and it started off a great year, but we're even better this year. We know what to expect from this season, and i think that this game is it's pivotal point. Quite honestly, I'm more worried about winning this one than UGA. I think VT is a more complete team than the one in Athens...

Big games @ BDS

2006- GT 30 UM 23 --won the Coastal and proved that '05 in the Orange Bowl was no fluke.

2006- GT 10 ND 14 --Notre Dame.

2003- GT 17 AU 3 --big win vs an old SEC rival

1999 GT 51 UGA 48 --two in a row over UGA, when it's UGA it's always big!

1998 GT 7 FSU 34 --blown out in a big ACC showdown

1991 GT 24 UVA 21 --first home game after winning the NC. Would have never guessed that in just the very next season B*** L**** would be on the sidelines.

1990 GT 6 VT 3 --last home game during the 1990 National Championship season
