Was DRAD at Press Conference Today?

The absence of any statement by the AD concerning CCG's situation today leads me to believe he is now on a very short lease.

I think he has to do 2 things next year or he is gone.

1) beat the nad lickers
2) At least win the Coastal Division if not the ACC.

At best, he had fragmented support from the base fans prior to this "affair" with the NFL.

It won't get any better unless we have a "great" season next year.

I think reading tea leaves would be as productive as this conjecture. Simply ridiculous.

Some of you guys must really be girls (no offense ladies). I' ve never seen a bunch of guys reading so much meaning into nothing. This is as silly as someone being upset because "he didn't say good morning".

Not quite correct.
"Radakovich said it wasn't Gailey's fault the Dolphins' hiring process took so long. He praised Gailey for keeping him, the players and the recruits informed.
"I think it was done as well as you can do it," Radakovich said. "When you're in a situation when someone else is controlling this, that someone else being a professional franchise, you don't have any control."

You are missing the point NC. I know I am just trying to look for anything positive. Like a condemned prisoner hoping for an 11th hour call from the governor.

First of all, let me say I am a Gailey supporter, but the last couple of weeks have shaken that.

At most places, when the coach is looking to leave, the school will step up and make the contract sweeter to prevent it or put clauses in the contract to make it tougher to leave. Just this year, we have seen it happen at West Virginia and South Carolina. They do that to remove the uncertainty and to keep a coach they think is doing great things for the program. We've seen it happen in the past at Louisville, Georgia, and many other places. Granted, these are college to college moves, not moves to the pros, but the point is the schools tried to do something to retain the coach.

It appears as if the AA did nothing to keep Gailey, rather they wished him luck.

I don't think any coach can be at a place where his short term future (4 years or less) is in question. The impact on recruiting would be too great. That's why most of these contracts have some sort of automatic renewal (including Gaileys), so the coach can look the recruits in the eye and say "my contract runs through 2012".

It will not impact this years class (though I am sure schools are trying) as they are too far down the line, but I would assume this situation will be used early and often by other schools starting with next years class.

DRAD now has a coach that has shown that he would leave given the right situation and a pending financial crisis in the AA. He must have a stable winning football program to generate revenues and motivate the donors.

The only way I think it gets solved on the field is to beat Georgia and win the ACC. That was the point of the original post.

Anything other than that, and DRAD will be in a difficult situation regarding CCG.

Isn't that the point of this board.......not much of it is productive....all of it is conjecture

Maybe even a month to month rental

DRad has some comments in today's AJC article

Although Gailey's comment at the end of the article is a very true one:

"First of all, the best way to make as many people happy as possible is win. That's the bottom line. You can shake a bunch of hands, and slap everybody on the back, but the bottom line is you need to win football games. That's the way to make sure you endear yourself to the fans."

Hiring a solid OC and winning ball games will do a lot to change people's minds. A lot more than going to alumni meetings and talking about it.

mookie, that post makes some sense, but trying to read something into DRad's presence or lack thereof and tie it into some grand comspiracy theory is what's laughable. Gailey knows to quite critics he has to win, period. Nothing else will do. He knows Tech can't match the pros when it comes to salary and he knows the financial conditiont of the GTAA. He turned down a raise during his contract renegotiation with Braine. DRad knows we can't really buy out his deal.

Add to all that, the fact that we did win 9 last year and make the ACCCG. No one is happy with how it ended but we have a lot of those same players back with the possibilities a new QB and OC bring.

Honestly, exactly how much pressure can Rad put on CG.I assume that even if Rad wanted to fire CG he would have to pay him off for 4 more yrs(and Tech may not have the $ to do that).Real tough deal, CG gets paid for doing nothing except look for another job IF he wants one. "Oh,Mr Ath Director ,pleez don't do dat to me"

I think we can have a great year and still not win the Coastal. Virginia Tech is gonna be a beast next year, IMO. Sean Glennon really came on at the end of the year, and Brandon Ore will be back and uninjured. They always return a strong defense and special teams core, so they'll be a tough team to beat. I wouldn't be surprised if they go undefeated or only have one ACC loss.

However, I still think we have a great shot at the Coastal. We've got VT and home this year, and somehow I still don't see Miami at full form.

All of that being said, we really need to beat Georgia next year.... REALLY!

But, imagine something like a 10-2 record with a win over Georgia. I think that'd be a definite step up for us, but it wouldn't necessarily win the ACC or even the coastal if VT or something else simply dominates.

Count me in on the non-ACC-winning 10-2 season with a win against UGA.

10-2, or even better, looked likely with Calvin staying. I'm just worried about how much of our running game last year came from defenses having to worry about Calvin. I'm also worried about receivers and I think either Demaryius Thomas or DJ Donley are probably going to have to step up next year.

Not to me, it isn't.

Going from "DRad did not attend a press conference" to "CCG now must now beat UGA and win the ACC or he's gone" is perhaps the stupidest thing I've ever read.

There is a difference between logical conjecture and divisive fantasy....Mike
