playing in the Bowls. Missouri (Doing fine right now against Arkansas) AirForce (With little or no talent almost beat Cal. AF lost on defense, PJ referenced AF yesterday on his 3rd Qtr. interview (I just hope PJ refuses to settle for those awful defenses AF and Navy traditionally have)

The option works in college football and the trend is going back to it. Auburn used it successfully last night and Michigan will use it next year.
Will be interesting to see how Illinois does today against arguebly the best Defense in the country U.S.C. I bet the option works for Illinois today.

Missouri and Illinois run the spread option....it's not the same offense in any way shape or form to the triple option that we will run next year. The spread option is a passing offense. The triple option is a rushing offense.

Neither you nor anyone else here knows clearly

what PJ will run at Gt with a different calibre of athletes than he had at Navy.

Wes said that he will not exclusevily use the triple option attack he used at Navy and PJ has said more than once he will taylor his offense to the type players he has. Even Barnhart said to look at West Va.'s spead option if your a GT player as that is what we will evolve into.
PJ even mentioned yesterday on the radio with Wes and Jeff that he used a passing attack while at Hawaii, SO, it will be a mixture of sorts. PJ also said his 1st day when hired that the option IS what he is about.

OPTION is OPTION, no matter, we will not see the QB sitting back there in the pocket and the defense teeing off on him. SO, we can watch option football all day today and see what is coming to GT. No more of the drop back passing game and that IS where college football is evolving back too.

It has been a long time since the Hawaii days. Just remember that PJ was hired due to his passion to win. He has used the TO, but I see him as a flexible offensive mind. This will be a growing experience, and he will mold his program into whatever it takes to win games. That being said we will be running the football a lot, and implement an efficient passing game.

I wouldn't call the spread option a passing offense. Look at WVU.

Agreed!

Well that statement pretty much determined that no one will take your posts on the subject seriously. The spead option is whatever you want to make it. It's a run offense for WVU and others, it's a passing attack for Texas Tech and their ilk. It can be whatever your personnel and the defense you face dictates. Besides, Mike Leach, the TT coach, is on record as stating that the principles of his offense and PJs are identical, he just chooses to throw and PJ chooses to run.

Isn't it amazing that some Tech fans can't or won't comprehend this statement. It's really mindboggling.

You're wrong, wrong, and wrong.

1: the triple flexbone is a spread formation, even in it's base 2-wingback look. It's essentially the same thing as the doubletight thing Florida runs a lot.

2: The spread option is a rushing offense. Please refer to West Virginia's (or any spread option team's) run : pass ratio as a reference.

3: You are right that the triple flex is a rushing offense, but it just sounded cooler to say you're wrong 3 times instead of 2. Sorry about that, I'm hung over. :P

The only functional difference between PJ's version and some other versions of this thing is how many hand-off-fakes are during the play.

This is a highlight vid from the 2000 Div 1AA title game where PJ coached his GSU team to a win. Next year expect Tech's offense to look very similar.

Actually the O will probably look more like the GSU O in the '99 Championship Game. The '00 game linked to above was played in a terrible rainstorm after the first 10 minutes, and the O was pretty vanilla because of the weather in that game.

Thanks for the link YF!

I remember the game well. Adrian Peterson (now of the Chicago Bears) had a helluva game and what became known as "the run". The coach at YSU is the current coach at Ohio State...Jim Tressell. GSU always had good speed but lacked depth. That won't be a problem at Tech with the additional scholly's.

Tech fans are going to have some fun.

Looks like the new Tech staff is well connected to Ga Southern http://www.gsufans.com/index.php?topic=5328.0
