we don’t have a good football program. High school football is so good in the Atlanta metro area, Georgia, and the Southeast. Our Athletic Dept ought to give each high school AD in the Atlanta area 50-100 GT sports shirts and baseball hats to give student athletes, and 10-20 tickets to give their football players for each home game. Half our stadium should be filled with sidewalk fans in a metro area like Atlanta and I think marketing to these high schools will help create that. Some of these kid’s parents would probably start coming to some games. From what I understand GT’s foundation is flush with cash so a request should be made to the annual contributors to allocate 10% to athletics, and our President should lead the charge. Of course we need the money so we can hire a top notch coach. We don’t have academic departments that are an embarrassment to the Institute and we don’t need out most visible athletic team to be an embarrassment. A lot could be done that I just don’t see happening. It seems apathy by our athletic department is a big problem.

J.T. Daniels looks good. Dude has an arm. Play calling is creative, leaning on C.J. Donaldson a bit to much.

We have had our shot. It would have been a different world had we been prescient enough to hire GOL when Ross left. We had our shot to turn this state. Collins came in and talked what we all want. Unfortunately, he is a terrible HC. There is nothing wrong with his schtick, if he could back it up. Dabo is corny as hell, but Clemson spent the money it takes and Dabo let his well paid coordinators work.

I just fear GT will hire a flashy coach and skimp on coordinators and we just embrace crappy play once again.

It doesn’t have to be that way. We need another Homer Rice.

Flashy coach like Deion knows enough to get highly skilled assistant coaches or to not take the job. He also knows the money that It will take to build and maintain the program from year to year.

We can beat these asshiles
By "we" you mean us folks on ST right? Cause no way a Collins coached team wins an ACC game. I'd bet if Collins is still coach VT beats us 38-2 and the safety comes of a bad snap by the VT 5th string long snapper once the game is out of hand.

Tonight we’ll see how bad UVA is when they play Syracuse. The whole Coastal is looking beatable; just wish we were good enough to capitalize on it this year.

The Coastal looks beatable. The saying that stay true, year over year. LOL

Interesting you say that as I was thinking the same thing watching VT implode in front of a packed house last night. What if we did capitalize after the Ole Miss debacle as it serves as smelling salts or something? I’m sure CGC saves his job but how will the fans take it? Winning changes things. Events change things. Who knows what will happen but I will say that UCF is supposed to beat us. It’s how we play that everyone will be watching for.

Winning more than 1-2 games won’t happen as long as CGC has anything to do with game prep, practice, and coaching during the game. He would be like a ball & chain to the other coaches and the team. If TStan would tell him to stay out of the way and let the assistants coach the team we might have a chance. Another big problem is Thacker, I don’t know who could coach the D.

I think the apathy is in Cabrera's office. I think he will stay apathetic until he is convinced people will withhold contributions to the school until he personally gets involved with making sure the GTAA has the money it needs to have the best AD and the best coach and staff for Tech. I also think hiring Deion Sanders would bring in recruits, fans and a strong, sound football team quicker than anything else we could do.

Why do you believe that? I hope it's the case but didn't we at one point believe the same about our CEO hc?

You bring up a good point. I believe that based on who Deion is, what he says, who his faith is in. He has a track record of on field success. Prime Time is based on his speed and intelect.
I never believed that about about the current sratospherian. I did like the hype about Atlanta, but recruiting does need to be backed up with real football moxie. D-train has that.

He has almost no record as a head coach. So what on field results? As a high school coach? As a low level coordinator?

Very few star athletes are good at coaching, so I dont think his prowess justifies it. He landed the first 5 star at an fcs, but even our hc had a really good signing class here at one point. What shows that his success would translate or be sustainable?
