We can win with Nesbitt or Shaw!

I hope Nesbitt is ready to play this weekend, but if he can't play, who thinks we cannot beat UNC?

Anybody?

I hope not, because I know that the team plans on getting a W whether QB1 or QB2 is at the helm.

UNC gives up a bunch of yards on defense every game and they have intercepted the ball more than twice per game on average. Our offense takes away their strength on defense from the get-go.

Jaybo Shaw had two disaster plays last week. But that doesn't negate the good things he has done and the things he is capable of. He has potential to succeed in this offense. If he meets his potential and our defense does well, we will score enough points to win the game.

Based on what I know about Coach Johnson, he will have everyone ready for the challenge and believing! I hope Nesbitt is ready to go, but if he's not, I am not going to be one tiny little bit less pumped up about this game!

THWG!

I am much more concerned about our pass defense than our offense, to be honest.

i really dont think that first pitch was his fault..he was in midmotion when the fsu lineman went untounched through the line and pulled him back..

the second one...yeh..bad throw.

I think we can win with Jaybo, I just don't like our chances near as much as with Josh.

fwiw, the update on 790 said that Josh is sitting out today, but may try to practice tomorrow. Dunno how much weight that carries.

Heather Dinich said:
Georgia Tech quarterback Josh Nesbitt has a sprained right ankle and will be held out of practice Monday night, which is usually more like a walk-through anyway.
The staff hopes to have him back on Tuesday, at least in a limited capacity. The good news for the Jackets is that Nesbitt isn't listed on the Monday injury report, which only includes players who are out.

Chances of winning WITH nesbitt--60/40
Chances of winning WITHOUT nesbitt--30/70

Did anyone see Nesbitt go crazy on the sideline? I saw him grab his helmet and he was walking and then i seen him trying to run and after that he just threw his helmet on the ground as hard as he could. Hes just had a string of bad luck.

I am definitely more concerned about scoring points. We get Reese back this week which will pay huge dividends. Also....Peterson now has some real game experience. Our nickel package gets much stronger with Reese back....along with Burnett, Taylor, Butler, and Reid. Make no mistake....we need Word back by UGA and hopefully he can...but his pull is much worse than Nesbitts.

If Nesbitt cannot go...Jaybo has to play with the confidence he displaed against Miss. St. and Duke...he was a bit taken back in the FSU game.

The QB play by Josh Nesbitt in the first 35 minutes Saturday is the best QB play we have had all year. I would love to keep that going....but I doubt it will.

this sucks....hopefully a miracle from god will take place and Nesbitt will play.

I think we definately can win with Jaybo:

Jaybo reads the 3-O better. His ball handling is better. He is less likely to lose big yardage on a sack/scramble.
However, if the play breaks down Jaybo does not have Josh's ability to turn a bad one into a good one. Jaybo does not have the arm strength of Josh. Jaybo is a true freshman. Jaybo has not played in a game where the chips are on the table late in the game (except FSU).

I believe we can win with Jaybo but a couple things have to happen.

The O-line cannot get dominated. Jaybo has to be able to get down the line to read it. We have to hit a couple of passes to loosen the safeties. Defense must play well early. Jaybo has played with a lead in both his starts. I'm not confident of Jaybo leading us from behind. As a freshman he will press for the big play while Josh has shown patience and waited to hit the big play when its there (Clemson/BC).

hivered, I'd say that was the best QB play we've seen on the Flats since Goose.

Of the games I've watched Josh was having his best all around game vs FSU. He was making good reads and attacking quickly. He was even pitching well to the A-backs. He seems to be grasping the speed required to make the offense go. Too bad he is injured. Hopefully he'll be back very soon.

Jaybo has played in this offensive system in high school and IMHO ran the offense to its fullest potential better than Josh early in the season. Because of playing time I think Josh has now equaled or passed Jaybo's abilities. However, if Jaybo gets practice work all week with the first unit we'll be okay.

We have to hit a couple of passes to loosen the safeties.

If the game gets to the point where we have to start throwing to get the yards, we are in trouble. Keep in mind that UNC is tied for leading the nation in interceptions.

What's even more scary about their interceptions is... their defense seems to have an INT mode where everyone starts creating lanes for the guy to bring it back either for a TD or back to the redzone.

Neither Jaybo or Josh has made reads and executed as well all year as Josh did the first 35 minutes Saturday.
In the first 6 possessions we had 4 TD's and a FG. After that we had about 10 yards of total offense.
Plus...with Gardner out of the year...if the QB ran for his life the first 9 games...you ain't seen nothin' yet!
I trust Paul Johnson...if he says Josh is the better QB right now...then I want him starting.
Just like if Paul Johnson says Gardner, Melton, and Word should be starting...I want them healthy also.
You can only move down the depth chart so often and so long before it catches up with you. This is not a knock...these kids will one day be starters...but this is crunch time in the last three games!

What Jaybo lacks right now in comparison to Josh is experience, leadership, and ability to make plays outside of the play called. I think we all know that Jaybo is talented and he's got a huge potention with CPJ coaching him; there is absolutely no doubt in my mind.

I'm not writing this to diss him or anything, I like the kid because I think he's modest and very humble from the post-game interviews he's done.

Experience - Experience is not really about who has the better grasp on CPJ's offense now because Josh has shown that he can execute well. It's really more about how many minutes have they played at this level and because Josh is our starter and has even taken a few snaps last year, he edges Jaybo by a lot.

Leadership - Right now, Jaybo really needs to be led and this ties in with him being humble and realizing that he has a lot to learn. This was very apparent to me after the MSU game; when Jaybo was abruptly brought in, it was Dwyer that took the reigns and helped Jaybo calm down and keep his nerves in check.

Play making - Huge difference between Josh and Jaybo... but this is a split between being an advantage and disadvantage. Josh can make something great happen out of busted plays. I think this has more to do with Josh having better pocket awareness and having a bit more quickness than Jaybo. On the other hand, Jaybo does things by the book which I think is a good thing and bad thing. Good because you won't have him scrambling out of pocket and back peddling to a 15-yard sack. Bad because if he's in trouble, chance of him turning it around to make the play by himself is fairly slim (from what we've seen so far anyway).

Another thing that is bad about Jaybo playing by the book is that he'll try to do what the called play is regardless of what the defense is doing. Case in point, his interception against FSU, CPJ called a passing play and that's exactly what Jaybo did. He just threw it up there and was hoping that Bay-Bay can make the play. Unfortunately, it was underthrown and Demaryius was well covered.

Ok, now I'm really worried about Nesbitt's helmet.

I'm more worried about our defense.

They need to man up...have looked like crap the past few outings.

STEP IT UP, "D"!!!!!!!!!

That pass was woefully underthrown. Never underthrow the deep route over the middle which is where that duck landed. I was hoping Bebe would tackle the corner before the ball got there.

Jaybo made 2 freshman mistakes after coming in unexpectedly. That's part of the learning experience. He won't be as likely to make those mistakes again, and I prefer to judge his ability on his previous games. Nesbitt is definitely the better playmaker and that improves our odds of winning, but I think we could win this game without him if the offensive line performs like last week. Overall, I'm concerned with injuries on both sides as we go down the stretch. The ACC battle may not be in the cards for us this year, but I'd sure like to be healthy when we go to Athens.
