We just came out flat...it happens

In three auc articles, that was the underlying thread to yesterday's "problem". No kidding, but it bothers me to see this sentiment spoken by several different players. I took it to mean that coming out flat was a good football reason.
Not wtte of ..."uva did some things we hadn't seen on film", etc.
Am I just frustrated about another big November loss, or is something very wrong about the acceptance of not being mentally ready to go...again?

The frustrating thing is that UVA seemed to come out from the opening kick to take it right to us, and we did not respond until we were down a couple of scores.

This game was a chance for us to grab the opponent by the neck and take our program up a notch.

It didn't happen. We really need to develop a killer instinct to seize opportunities like yesterday.

We have a couple more games this year in which to accomplish a break out, but the off-season is quickly approaching.

Let's hope the Jackets rise to the challenge and aggressively take charge from the starting whistle of last few games. We need to put forth complete efforts in all phases of the game to compete against our remaining opponents.

This has been a recurring theme all year - Va. Tech, NC State, Clemson, UVa, even Duke, for chrissakes. Our offensive game plan coming out of the locker room has just been horrendous. Combine with Reggie's tendency to play poorly in the first half, we've generally started off behind the 8-ball.

However, that doesn't explain the NC State and UVa losses - Caught up both times and neither defense, offense, nor special teams (make a field goal for once!!!!) could make the big plays when it counted.

BTW - I'm not so sure we've got a bowl invite cinched - If we lose by large margins to both Miami and Ugag, and UVa plays reasonably close to Miami and VT, I think they'll take the 6th ACC bowl spot, even though we'll have a better conference record (Can the bowl selection committees do that?)

I agree. We need some good performances, if not an outright win, to be sure of a bowl invite. We are bowl eligbile, but bowls are not going to want to take us if they have other opportunities and we lose our last three games (especially including any blowouts).

Let's just go out and win (in particular against UGA) to remove any doubt.

Bowl game is locked up for one big reason.

The ACC will not allow us to end our steak of bowl games. It is something that they, just like us, enjoy bragging about and they just won't let that end.

They'll work something out to insure that we get that bid.

Tennessee will have to play well to get the 7th

SEC spot and I'm pretty sure they have 8.

I'll bet a critical body part that we are IN a bowl.

Re: Tennessee will have to play well to get the 7th

Whatever "bowl" we are in, will be nothing compared to the next 2 weeks, football wise.

No doubt.

Ironically, my outlook for Chan will depend on GT-UGA, Clem-USCe, and FSU-UF as well as the ACC bowl schedule.

If we are holding serve in an overrated ACC that would be a bad sign. If the ACC is stepping up I'm happy with our progress.

Re: Tennessee will have to play well to get the 7th

The ACC office will make sure that every team that is eligible gets a bid. Count on it.

Pocketwatch, I'm with you 100%. It is not acceptable to say "well, we just came out flat." That would be two years in a row against UVA. Our program has to get to the place where we are ready to play 11 times a year. Only Duke and maybe UConn on this schedule could be beaten on a Saturday "we just aren't ready to play."

And we seem to be fine with that. Even if I felt that way as a player, I would be damned if I said that to a reporter for my coaches to see. Especially since this has been a recurring problem since VPI. Hmmm.
