We need some backups playing time

PJ's offense requires lots of QB's, A's and B's participating. We really need to win some games a little easy so Josh, Dwyer, et al can rest some.

We are not deep enough at WR, B Back, LB and Special Teams and the season is long. We need a break and a big win would do it for us. Duke will not be easy this year either.

We're getting plenty of time for the backups at LB, WR, and A-Back. LB and WR b/c of injury. AB (and WR for that matter) b/c of substituting/running plays in.

But, yes, I agree in wishing we could get some more reps for Jaybo and our B-Back backups. I guess that would be Kelly and Watson, though Watson is still a candidate for a redshirt.

Yes, I should have said that the backups at LB are now the starters at LB. We are clearly running out of bodies and personally I'd burn the redshirts. The ACC is wide open this year and we could run the table.

We are virtually out of players at A Back and WR.

We could definitely see some RS burned this year and to be honest, I'm not totally against it. We could definitely take the ACC and own it the rest of the way.

I would love to see Paige, Lockhart, and Wright carrying the ball some

I would definitely save redshirts. Another whole year of eligibility for these players after they have learned the system will be much more important and I doubt any of those aforementioned players are the difference in making it to the ACC Championship or not. We have Mississippi State, which I feel will be a tougher game than many are assuming, which is followed by 3 straight bye weeks before we play Clemson. That 3 week stretch is the time to get other players involved and to try and get the offense a little more fluid. Clemson is followed by Virginia which should be another easy win. We then get to the heart of our schedule which features 4 tough contests against FSU, UNC, Miami, and UGA. Hopefully by then we will know more of what to expect during that stretch, but right now I would be satisfied with 2-2. Many are thinking we should win easily against FSU, UNC and Miami, but I need a few more games before I eat that cookie.

Definitely necessary to save the redshirts. Losing to VT puts us OUT OF CONTROL in the ACC. No reason to go burning redshirts in a situation in which we have no control over.

I'm with you JoeCake. The remaining schedule has plenty of big hurdles, beginning with Miss. State. This is going to be a BRUTAL game. I just hope and PRAY for our sakes that we can escape with a "W" and NO significant injuries. That is ALOT to ask right now. We're very battered as it is. Thank GOD we've got a week off after Miss. State. We're gonna need some major healing time. IF we lose Nesbitt and/or Dwyer we're in deep doo doo.

MSU, Clemson, Duke (yes Duke), FSU, Miami, UNC AND UGA will all be tough. If we can get 7-8 wins with our youth, propensity to fumble, and paper thin depth...we should ALL be proud to go to ANY bowl!

If it is a tight game, I do not want to see Josh Nesbitt leave the field. The scrubs can get some practice time if we get a 21 point lead on MS State.

Jaybo needs to be getting time regardless. The kids not going to hurt us and it will take some pressure off of JN. I just wish the coaches had the confidence to put in another lineman or two but at this time I don't think they have enough confidence in what they got.

I'm surprised you're suggesting our (second?) best offensive player needs to sit out.

When DTs are frequently in our backfield as soon as the ball is snapped there's reason for lack of confidence.

I didn't say for the whole game. I don't think it will hurt the next 4 weeks to get Jbo some reps. JN is a little beat up right now so a series here or there won't hurt. Now when the second half comes along it's a whole new game.

And that may very well be all the more reason to give the backups some "PT". They gotta be pretty good or they wouldn't even be out there.

I totally agree with you Mover. Too often coaches become fixated on 18 to 22 players. I have always felt that playing too much leads to fatigue at the end of a tight game and perhaps injuries simply based on the more plays you have the more likely you are to be injured. I am not advocating for a hotel hewitt situation in football but a series here and there at certain positions will probably not turn a victory into a loss.

JD, how deep will the Walton coach go during a tight game? The Harrison coach played 18 to 20 players for 90% of the game against N. Cobb. Look out for Rico Mack from North Cobb. He would be a perfect A-back in our offense and is apparantly interested.

with MSU, Duke and GW coming up, i think Shaw will be getting some reps

Don't forget that JN is new to this offense. He needs to get reps in to become more comfortable with the O. I think that is part of the reason we haven't seen Jaybo in the past two game.

Dudley's not going to go too deep in a close game, but when he's got a good lead he will play as many kids as he can. Keeping fingers crossed Harrison gets a chance to play as a freshman this year.

As for Tech goes, as the year winds down kids are knicked up and you hope that you have a few warm bodies to put in at certain situations on games to give the starters a rest. Doesn't always work that way though.

I agree and add to it that taking a QB out of the game thats in a good rhythm is dumb, especially in a close game. I only expect to see Jaybo if:

1-Josh is playing terrible.
2-Josh is hurt.
3-Game has been decided.
