Ok - I added damnit just to make it two words.
And stop getting schooled in Reddit.
Yeah people on Reddit get offended by mom jokes probably because their moms got offensively plowedI’ve gotten banned on Reddit and Twitter for posting like I do here so stingtalk still has its perks.
While this has true, you can guarantee that Uncle Sam will step in to protect Title IX from NIL. What that looks like, I have no idea, but you can damned well bet that there’s no way the feds will allow the unequal distribution of NIL monies and a decline in women’s sports. Can’t do it. As a redditor pointed out to me, the kids aren’t in a union.
Two words: Salary Cap.
When many fans realize their team has a snowballs chance in hell of making the playoffs?
Eventually, donors will say "you know what? I paid for that natty. We got it. I'm through writing million dollar checks to teenagers so I buy a natty sweatshirt. I think I might take a year lease on that Hawaiian beachfront villa instead."When will the bottom fall out? When we finally get tired of seeing the same teams in the playoffs? When many fans realize their team has a snowballs chance in hell of making the playoffs? When conference realignment finally shakes everything up?
They are going to get to the “I’m going to buy a player though NIL and not give to the AT fund” part long before that. And when they do, it is going to cause a collapse of non-revenue (read: mainly women’s) sports and that is when there will be a big problem that corrects this (probably in the wrong way).Eventually, donors will say "you know what? I paid for that natty. We got it. I'm through writing million dollar checks to teenagers so I buy a natty sweatshirt. I think I might take a year lease on that Hawaiian beachfront villa instead."
This NIL stuff as it currently is will kill college sports unless something is done to change it.
IMHO, the funds need to be pooled and disbursed evenly after graduation and the players MUST graduate to get the money. A stipend paid to all players as they matriculate and a kind of players pension paid out after they graduate. Otherwise you can kiss "amateur" college athletics goodbye.
Sign of the times I guess.
How would that benefit players? Two words: Salary Cap.
