What did it say it's not on the vent any longer.

Re: Whadday\'all think about this?

basically it said that the SEC was going to consider expansion in during their spring meetings. I, for one, don't believe it. Even if they did, UGetanA would not want Tech in there because it would be detrimental to their recruiting. Most of their older alums still believe we left the SEC to become the Notre Dame of the south. We actually left because Dodd didn't like the kids scholarships being revoked after they were carted off to school and evaluated.
I would like to see a conference, if I could realign everything, that contains the three Florida schools, the two SC schools, the two GA schools, the two Al schools, the two Miss schools and the two Tenn schools. (Vandy is iffy there) That would be a super south league. Then the North Carolinas, Dookies, Maryland, Kentucky, Louisville and Virginias (maybe Vandy too) could round robin themselves in basketball to their little hearts content and I could watch football.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Why and who was revolking the scholarships? Personally, I think Tech being back in the SEC would be like returning home. Also, with Ralph at Maryland the Terps belong in your new version of the Southern Conference of the 1920's and 30's before the Southeastern Conference evolved.

Re: Whadday\'all think about this?

Correct. Schoplarship limits were the reason Tech left the SEC. Dodd never took a kid off scholarship for any reason. Another interesting thing about Dodd was he liked for his players to be married. TEch had more married FBplayers than most colleges at that time.

Re: Whadday\'all think about this?

Read Dodd's Luck. IIRC Alabama was one of the schools he was particularly bothered by. Bear would sign the max every year, then "fire" players who weren't up to his standard. Dodd felt it gave them an unfair advantage because his view was the scholarship offer was for 4 years. Dodd felt if he made a mistake on a kid it was his mistake, and as long as the player did everything he was asked he kept his scholarship.

Re: Whadday\'all think about this?

Incorrect. Dodd wanted to be independent to make more money. The scholarship issue was an excuse to leave the conference. It was a gamble that failed miserably.

"UGetanA"

That's a good one, JJ! And it pretty much sums things up.

Re: Whadday\'all think about this?

Well, I was taking Dodd at his word. Dodd did not have a reputation as a liar. Also, our problems since 1967 were not caused by which conference we were in or not in. I don't think we would have won any more games if we had stayed in the sec. There are plenty of successful programs that are not in the sec, and there are some duds that are.

Re: Whadday\'all think about this?

Ow! More revisionist history. When will it end?
Coach Dodd left the the SEC over principle. He wasn't hunting for cash. Give me a break!

I'm prepared to look at two different kinds of REAL Tech fans. The Pros and the Cons but from my porch you naysayers are just a bunch of pooches. Actually there is only ONE kind of Tech fan. All or nothing. You critics need to find another program to infect.
