What a play Qua!!!

After the whiskey clear has worn off and I watch the play in soberness of mind, Damn that was awesome!!

And I know it's a repost. It deserves it!

I drove 7 hours home after the game and had a celebratory dram of Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or right before bed. Jolly good fellow.

FWIW CPJ said he had a run/pass option on that play, so maybe perfect play execution too.

I was watching him bobble the ball for a second and thought it was a completely broken play and as soon as he stretched out I think I had some kind of seizure.

That's good to hear, while I was watching I felt like it was an option but then read online that it was a busted play. Thought it worked a little too well for it to be a busted play.

CPJ and Qua both said postgame that it was an option and CPJ reminded him during the TO that it was 3rd down and not to force it if it was covered. Great read on the fly, decisive move after the read, and ridiculous dive to get into the end zone when it looked like he was gonna get stopped at the 1. Shout out to the OL for creating a wall for him to get there too.

This was the unveiling of the quad-option reverse calamari surprise imo.

Option #1: Justin keeps for what I guess would be a naked boot.

Option #2: Justin throws to Searcy

Option #3: Searcy throws back to Justin (god.)

Option #4: Searcy keeps and follows his blockers

But because we're Georgia Tech and nine years of preparation isn't enough, the play was broken and Searcy just ran back up the middle which Georgia had somehow managed to completely ignore on this play, stretched out like some kind of super hero and saved us all from almost certain death.

edit: The more I think about this the more I can't decide whether the surprise is supposed to be that the play was broken or that it resulted in a game-winning touchdown in Athens.

And I think maybe the "calamari" was a red-herring, at this point. I don't remember seeing any but I haven't re-watched the play much yet.

Searcy joins the pantheon of Tech immortals with that play

Replay shows Brad Stewart wide open but not sure if Qua had already crossed the LoS (thereby committing to the run).
