that we can make it to the Peach Bowl this year? Looks like the ACCCG is out for us which means no BCS bowl either. I would really like to stay on the east coast this year. What does everybody think about the Peach and our chances of getting there?

In my opinion we need to finish at least 8 - 4 and beat UGA to have a good shot at a bowl game in the southeast.

Accomplishing those goals is important, and they will take some effort and excellent play by the team.

We need to go 5 - 1 in the remaining games including 3 - 1 in the ACC by beating Duke, UNC, and one of Miami and VT.

If we do that, we will finish on a strong note including a victory over UGA, and we will be reasonably attractive to some of the bowl game committees in the southeast.

I maybe wrong but I believe the bowls are selected by conference standings. Peach Bowl gets the #2 or 3 pick out of the conference so at 1-3 in the ACC right now our chances arent very good. I think right now a West Coast bowl is a more realistic expectation.

Do you think we would sell out the peach bowl? Maybe if we play Auburn or Alabama... We can't even sell out BDS let alone a 71,000 person stadium.

Is the Idaho Blue Bowl still operating?

We wouldn't have to. Our ticket allotment would be nothing close to the total seating of the dome. Not to mention the allotment that the opposing team would get.

Yup.

Peach bowl might save Chan his job.

Emerald won't cut it.

I gotta assume it's going to be 50/50 so we're probably going to get close to 35k. That is about how many tickets we have to sell for BDS to sell out when you consider visiting fans and students.

So I am asking again, do we sell out?

Do we get credit on our streak if we attend a defunct bowl? Will there be anyone there for us to play?

The Chick-fil-A Bowl gets the first selection after the BCS. We aren't going there. The Gator won't take us back. Champs might if we go 6-0 to finish. Meineke will never take us. That leaves the Music City Bowl or out west (and yes, there is still a bowl in Idaho).

It's not even close to 50/50 (35K). The bowl couldn't survive if they relied on the schools to handle all of their ticket sales in the matter of a couple of weeks around the holidays. Individual and corporate sales are strong for the CFA bowl. Last year's allotments to the schools were 18,500.

Kyle, if I remember correctly, the last time we were at the Peach Bowl, we helped set an attendance record. We also set an attendance record at the Gator Bowl the year before.

I think both have been broken now, but usually we'd get to those bowls by being on a roll and beating UGA. If that were to occur, the only way we'd get to those bowls this year, then our attendance would be very high.

Remember, we've lost to UGA six years in a row. So for six years, we've limped into a bowl. It really matters and bowls know it for us. (Hence why I'd like us to try playing UGA first in the year. Then it'd just be a good rivalry but wouldn't ruin post season aspirations for those losing years.)

The two teams in the Peach Bowl get 1/3 of the stadium allotment to split (24K tix/2). Tech's allotment would be 12K tix, an easy sell.

The Peach is one of the few bowls which has not had any problem selling out its non-team allocated tickets for many years now (since it moved to the Dome). We were begging for more tickets to sell to Tech fans the last time we went, but we couldn't get any more.

If we were to make it there then we would be playing one of the top SEC teams, most likely, so yeah i think we could sell out.

Hmmmm...A bowl game where the ticket allotment is split even among schools. Let's do the math.

Ga Dome
72,000 / 2 = 36,000 (High estimate because corporate tickets will eat into the overall ticket allotment) EDIT: I see that Stick has given more accurate numbers for each team's ticket allotment.

Home game @ BDS@HGF
55,000 - 10,000 (away team allotment, very conservative) = 45,000

By my count, we would have to sell 9K less tickets to the GA Dome for a bowl game. Since I was conservative on both estimates the number is really greater than 9K.

I must be on everyone's Ignore list. His numbers weren't accurate. The Hokies and the that other cow college they played last season were given an allotment of 18,500 each.

They may have ended up with 18,500 to sell through the school's ticket offices, but their initial allotment was 12K. Sometimes you can get more from the opponent (NOT the case here), sometimes the Bowl committee can free some up from their local allotments.
