What are we lacking?

This is troublesome folks. The ACC is moving up in football, and, just when we were on the threshold of being its new royalty, we now appear to be left behind! Maryland has Friedgen and his mental superiority and perfectionism. NC State has Amato and his emotion, guts and heart. Virginia has Groh and his slickness and salesmanship. Wake has Grobe, who seems a combo of Friedgen and Amato (too bad for Deac fans that he is not long for their school). What do we have? We're getting left behind. Clemson and UNC, no matter what their coaching weaknesses are, will always be able to outrecruit us.

My biggest feeling is that Gailey will not stick around and endure this. The guy is a journeyman. Let's face it. He got his big break in the pros because he and Dan Reeves were from the same home town. He has run into some bad luck here with injuries, and perhaps bitten off more than he could chew. I'd like to see him stay and build something, but after being on the threshold of supplanting UGA as the state football power, do we dare tolerate what failures lie ahead?

I keep hoping tomorrow is a new day. Hopefully we will see some positives against a pretty good UVA team with something to build on.

We will know by this time tomorrow.

Just a few thoughts.

First of all, the ACC isn't going anywhere in football. There is nothing new going on, there are always a couple of programs on the rise and a couple seemingly on a decline. It's just not one of the top football conferences. Just look at where we are. With NCSU and MD on rolls, we still only have one team getting any recognition. And State will plummet if/when they lose.

We are having a tough year. But if one tough year sinks our program then we don't have one to start with. Nationally people will look at this as an aberration. The big question is what happens the rest of this year and next year. If we rebound no one will think twice. Let's face it, even with the success we've had the last 5 years or so, we aren't considered a power.

Also curious what you mean by "journeyman". Is that a reference to moving from job to job? If so I would challenge you to review any coach's resume who has been around any time at all. Also look at situations. For example, Mac left Tech to follow Curry to Ala. Gailey left the Broncos to be a HC. When the league folded he moved on again.

Or do you mean he can't coach? You will have to give me more evidence for that than this year so far. Although people love to attack his record as OC, the Dolphins did as much as you could expect with Fiedler as QB, and the Steelers got a lot out of Slash. His 2 years with the Cowboys are the best they have had in some time, and Jerry Jones has admitted firing him was a mistake. If things don't improve we will have to do something, but moaning about whether he will stay isn't productive at all. It's just whining.
