What can a coach do to affect the results of a game?

Here is one couch potato’s list:

Recruit talented players,
Develop the players to maximize their potential,
Evaluate player’s ability vs. teams needs; make line up changes as necessary,
Develop a game plan that maximizes our player strengths and attacks the opponent’s weaknesses,
During a game, make game plan adjustments as necessary and substitute players as necessary.

Maybe I’m leaving something out here but I think that’s about it. A coach can’t step on the field and make a play (unless he coaches for Northwestern).

So how does anyone look at our performance this year, no not the last two games last year, this year and say Gailey has not performed his job well? But here we still have a handful of posters who would choke before spitting out, “nice job Coach Gailey!”

In all fairness, we have active posters who work for GTAA. We also have active posters who used to work for GTAA. And I suspect there are posters here (looking back thru two seasons of comments) who have personal ties to former coaches. I can understand bias in favor or against Gailey for these reasons (not necessarily condone but understand).

But anyone who is not carrying excess baggage and is a true Tech fan has got to be thrilled with the teams (coaches and players) performance this season.

I feel sorry for those that just can’t give Gailey due credit, and I believe they are in for a ton of disappointment before Gailey has finished his career at Tech.

Please explain why a "true" Tech fan has to be "thrilled" at being 1-2...when the main reason we are not 3-0 is Chan's refusal to make half-time adjustments... to keep up with our opponents half-time adjustments... that allow THEM to come from behind to beat us... in games that easily should have been won by US?

I would like to add just one more thing. For those who can't say anything positive about Gailey, as we go forward go ahead and point out his mistakes (I'm sure he will make a few) and share your thoughts here on those mistakes.

But for the sake of the rest of us, stop posting about what happened in the past and your personal doom and gloom forecast for the future; we heard it a 1000 times already.

I'm adding a reply to Beewares post below:

Given the academic fall-out (what was it ten total two starters?), the loss of an All-American DE in Gathers, the loss of a potential Heisman trophy candidate in Hollings, every expert (someone who is paid to evaluate college football) said the impact on our team would be insurmountable; not just a few experts but every experts opinion I have read near and far from out program. The same "experts" said we were going to be creamed by Auburn (great games wasn't it-one of the best I can remember), then FSU, ranked by experts as a plus 24 point favorite (even after we beat Auburn), barely pulls out a 1 point win after our kids are down to their last breath.

The lack of depth, our kids were just worn out both at 4000 feet and at Tally. That's why Beeware...hope you see it too.

Wow, I knew the coverage on ESPN's Game Plan was good, but I didn't realize you could get into the locker rooms at halftime to hear Gailey refuse to make adjustments. Was that a special offer Beeware?

C'mon Beeware, you know Chan doesn't make adjustments. If he did we might win and the last thing he wants to do is win. Haven't you figured it out by now? He's in retirement, he doesn't want to work hard, he's just messing around to get his paycheck. That's why he REFUSES to do anything to help us win.

What a crock.
