What could we pay our next Head Coach?

So there are a lot of articles about coaching hires and potential salaries being thrown around right now, and the numbers are pretty staggering to me. Someone like Tom Herman can command $3 million/year, which is pretty much equal to PJ, but with the fraction of the resume. I can't help but wonder how GT competes in the arms race when it comes time for our next hire. I know we aren't bad off, but I'm guessing we are probably middle of the pack amongst the Power 5 in what we can pay.

So... what if PJ decided to retire on Sunday, and dedicate the rest of his life to deep sea fishing. What could we conceivably pay an up and coming coach in this market to lure him here? I know Demjackets used to have all this info back in the day, but anyone here have any idea about the purse strings at the AA? Also, does Bobinski have any connections to any coaches of interest like the Missouri AD does with Herman, or (on a much larger scale) LSU does with Jimbo? Perhaps most interestingly, would we hire a coach who would continue this offense at GT?

Also, a very Happy Thanksgiving to all Stingtalkers. Hope y'all are having a great day whether it's with the family or with buddies and a favorite bottle. Cheers to you all.

Respectable base with bonuses for wins, graduation %, etc.

For example year the team gets CPJ 5 million. This year he gets 1.5 mil...

He might be more willing to shitcan coaches like Sewak that can't get the job done.

I think beating UGAy would be worth 500,000 to the GT fans out there.

Happy holidays to you and yours as, well.

The next go round I think we could go 4 mill per. But I think it is important we start giving salary bonuses connected to victories over ugag, and not extend due to that.

Whenever the time comes for another coach it is vital we go with a more orthodox O. It will help recruiting for both the O and D. We could recruit at least 1 more O or D lineman instead off that extra back the TO requires.

To those claiming it will take X # of years to get the players in to run a different O, they also said that when Pepper & CPJ first came in as well. It is not true.

Mister we could use a coach like Chan Gailey again. Those were the days.

While I totally understand what you're saying, I disagree vehemently. If we had beaten FSU and snuck into the playoffs last year, we would have been a threat to win it all. I don't see that happening without a coach that gives us some type of schematic advantage. 1) It allows us to recruit some different players (like JT) rather than rely on winning head to head with UGA/Clemson. 2) it makes us tougher to prepare for and play against. 3) We just aren't gonna beat the big boys running the same stuff they are, with less talented players.

I enjoy running the option, but I agree that we don't need to limit ourselves to that. If we were to switch to a Big 12 type spread, I'd be okay with that as well, and there wouldn't be as difficult of a transition of some seem to think. They said we would struggle in PJ's first year but we won 9 games, so it's doable with the right coach.

If CPJ goes, lets hire Niumatalolo. Not even really joking. I like having this offense as an identity and I think it gives us our best shot with the players we can get.

Like johncu said, though, I wouldn't argue with an air raid or run and shoot approach. But CPJ is the perfect "type" of coach for our situation. we know what our ceiling is with a conventional offense.

A little over a year ago, I was questioning if CPJ should stay for the first time. I was starting to think the option was not for us. Then we had a great end to the season and it proved the flexbone could work. Because of that I have absolutely no reason to wish for him to leave now. Not saying a few bad years would have me feel the same, but I think those that want him gone now need to go pull for a football factory.

Not "Saban money," which is what it takes to hire a top shelf "proven" HC.

Hiring Leach to coach is the football equivalent of voting for Trump.

Washington state is 8-3 and in the top 20. If it weren't for a missed field goal to beat stanford, they would be playing for the Pac 12 championship. The entire team is freshman and sophomores. They will win the Pac 12 in the next 2 years.

We would be so lucky to have Mike Leach after Cpj. That said, I love the triple option and our identity,so. I'd rather hire the guy from navy who's last name I can't begin to spell.

Has anyone here ever been to Southeastern Washington? There is no way in öööö that college should be good at any sport. For their football team to be 8 - 3 is a miracle.

This x1000. If PJ decided to retire sooner than later, Niumatalo and Leach would be my top choices for a replacement.
