I've heard lots of differing opinions the past few weeks, so I am curious where everyone stands.

What defines success for GT? If we had blue sky conditions, what level of year-over-year play would make you happy?

This is a public poll.

People will never be happy with 'one thing'. If we are consistently in the top 25 then eventually that is going to become expected and we are going to start to be unhappy until we win the ACC championship. If we are consistently winning the ACC then eventually that is going to become expected and we are going to start to be unhappy until we are play-off contenders. So on and so forth...

As it stands?

-9:1 winning seasons.
-1 excellent season, 1 fun seasons, 3 mediocre seasons every five years
-no off the field embarrassments

I would put that at 8-9 on the average.

Other, or actually, all of the above. I loved the eighteen year run where our basement was six wins and our ceiling was a top ten team and Orange Bowl championship. Non-losing seasons, bowl games every year, playing for 3 ACC championships, going 4-4 or better in conference year after year - O'Leary, Gailey, and Johnson all showed us what success looks like at Tech. The shame is that some got spoiled and did not appreciate it. Last year we went back to a lower basement than we had experienced for almost two decades. And, we are discovering that season can cast a long shadow on seasons to come. Today was a huge loss. With a win, it would be hard to envision a season with less than seven wins. After the loss, 4 to six wins seems more likely.

We should be striving to be a playoff contender. We should not have the expectation of achieving that level of success every season or even every other season.

I agree with this, but for now stringing together a few 8 win seasons and beating uga would do.

Contending for the ACC every year. In the playoff once per decade. Beating UGA 5 years out of 10. Never losing to Duke again.

I think Kim King said it best in his book.
"Do I think that Tech can compete for a national championship under the current setup. No, not really. So I was a shocked as anybody at what happened in 1990. Do I think that Tech has a chance to be a really good team and finish in the Top 10, Yes I do. Maybe not year in and year out, But I do think they could be a regular Top 25 team and compete for the ACC on a regular basis. And I still think that's the case at Tech."

7-5 with some 10+ wins seasons sprinkled in would be nice but I think that is asking for alot at a place like GT.

So the standard seems to be Top 25+.

Do you think Johnson can take us there? Can he string together 3+ Top 25 finishes?

I'm happy with what we're doing.

Win some, lose some. At the end of the day, it's amateur sport. Our focus should always be supporting the young men who play and appreciating their hard work on and off the field.

My only disappointment with Tech football - or Tech sports in general - comes when I feel that either the players don't care and/or the coaches don't. I have only seen that twice with CPJ teams: 2010 and Vad Lee.

Aside from that, I've loved being a Tech fan especially these last 8 years. We've had some really great times.

I was typing a long answer, but I'll keep it short.

I think he could, but probably won't. More likely we're top 25 2 out of 4 years or something like that. I'm still fine with that, because I've seen how good we can be under CPJ, and it's awesome. Also, odds are we end up worse with a new coach, so I'm not really up for making a change just because öööö it.
