Wow.GT -#3 overall in Offense ypg.#6 Def ypg.
btw--So you know your stats-what team stats did Tech come in highest in ranking? (Of course we all know the lowest)
For answer go to "stat answer" in next thread.
If you want all stats go to ACC website

Net Punting of course. Practice makes perfect LOL!

interesting though...take out those ST TDs (maryland, NC State) and TDs the offense gave up on turnovers (Miami, UGA, NC State)...the defense really allowed 14.1 points per game, which would have been good enough for 2nd in the conference.

Conference stats in this case are pretty misleading, as our conference has strong defenses and weak offenses, and also most teams in the conference play vastly weaker non-conference schedules than we do. A better comparison would be conference stats in only conference games.

Nationally we rank #78 in total offense and #21 in total defense. This gives a much better picture of where we stand.

And finally, passing yardage is fairly poor measure of success, on both sides of the ball but especially defense. If you look at rushing yardage and pass efficiency those are much better indicators. In this case, we are #2/#35 (conference/nationally) in rushing yardage, while #8/#92 in passing efficiency. Meanwhile on the defensive side we are #3/#11 in rushing yardage defense and #3/#9 in pass efficiency defense.

If you look at those last numbers, it tells you all you need to know - our passing offense stinks and needs fixing. (Actually not quite all you need to know, our kickoffs and kickoff coverage were also major trouble spots.)

I wholeheartedly believe the defense outperformed the offense again this year. But, these stats do point out we were ranked higher in scoring and total offense than we were in scoring and total defense. We were indeed in a conference with much stronger defense than offense.

Our defense had a much easier job trying to stop ACC offenses than the O had trying to succeed against ACC defenses. I would argue that the challenge for the offense was much greater in the Va Tech, Miami, UNC, NCSU, UGA, and Wake games. It's hard to think of anyone we played with an offense clearly superior to their defense. (Maybe ND, but not as early as we played them.)
