Where is this depth that you speak of? Name one player that would start for UGA?Another way to think about this is to wonder which upper classmen are nervous.
Depth is such a good thing to have. And we have it now - not everywhere but in a lot more places than we used to.
I define depth as a small dropoff in performance between a starter and his backup (and the backup's backup).Where is this depth that you speak of? Name one player that would start for UGA?

Is having freshmen, or underclassmen, playing ahead of upperclassmen a good sign, or a bad sign? I would say that having a talented recruiting class that comes in and none of them make the two deep would be a sign that the team was very talented overall. It is when the new kids displace the older guys that you know you have a weak team. It will be interesting to see how the four game redshirt allowance affects our depth over the next four or five years.Another way to think about this is to wonder which upper classmen are nervous.

I agree, since we play an entirely different type of football than most of our competition. And that remains the PRIMARY reason that most of our competition are able to recruit better runners, passers, receivers, and blockers than we are able recruit. Georgia (and Clempsen, and FSU and Miami and VPI) don't ask their WR to block. They are receivers, and they are coached to run routes, get open, and catch a pass. It's apples and oranges in terms of what each needs from their offensive players. How many Georgie guys would start on our offense? Swift? Who knows if any of the linemen could do what we need them to do. Fromm would be a failure. They are looking for a go-to WR just like us, and who knows if any of theirs can block?
I don't know them very well but I think an ABack or dback has a shot given where we are on depth and new players. Maybe a wide receiver as well.
Yep. Was just thinking about that rule. It can be any 4 games, which means that talented freshman could be used only in important games... or only in non-important games to get reps. It’ll be interesting to see the strategy usedMore than normal, since you now can play true freshman in up to 4 games without burning their shirt.
It may, may, be a contributing factor (I don't think it's much of one), but to say it's the PRIMARY reason is delusional. And that remains the PRIMARY reason that most of our competition are able to recruit better runners, passers, receivers, and blockers than we are able recruit.

I heard Jim Harbaugh talking about it and he was talking about guys getting hurt early (like in camp for instance) and being able to come back late in the year and for the bowl game and still redshirt. So it sounds like you’re going to be able to pick.Is it that you have to decide after the first four games or four games of participation (i.e. what you described)?
WAG:
Joaqon Griffin, DE. We always need size and definitely need some new playmakers to participate this year.
A perplexing dislike from @agthegreatMore than normal, since you now can play true freshman in up to 4 games without burning their shirt.
