Have a couple quick questions:
Where was Choice in the 3 & 4th quarter?
Why didn't Riles play? I know/heard that Peek was injured....but where was Riles?
Why didn't Evans see the field? I had heard rumors that he would play....maybe the Coach just never felt comfortable enough to get him PT in an environment like this...?
Why didn't they hand the ball off to Cox on the 3 and 1...instead of Choice in the back field....

Anyway it's easy to be the backseat driver and 2nd guess...I know Nix wasn't trying to make poor decisions but I hope to see them open things up next couple games....

From a shotgun formation! It was almost like someone different was calling plays in the 2nd half.:eekhair:

- Not sure where the run game went in the 3rd/4th qtr. I think Nix may have bailed a little bit quickly on the run game imho.
- Peek is being redshirted. Riles played little. There were actually not a lot of offensive snaps to require going 3 deep in the chart. Per CG, none of the TE's stood in fall practice...so it is "by committee".
- CG said Evans will play this year...but he was unsure about playing him against ND as a true freshman with two experienced backs ahead of him. Again...not enough snaps to go three deep.
- On the 3rd and 1 that comes to my mind Rashaun Grant was in the backfield and came up short. I would have preferred to see Choice get it with Cox leading the way...even in the power I (which I love btw). Grant is a great back...I just do not see him as a 3rd and 1 back..but what do I know...I am just a fan!

Grant ran harder up the middle than Choice. Choice ran more like a slasher last night. Didn't seem to have strong legs under his self.

On the 3rd and 1 It was Choice in the game, not Grant! and yes they should have given it to Cox.

I hate to see a team hand the ball of three or four yards deep in the backfield on a 3rd and 1 ...particularly when it comes after a 2nd and 1.

If you are going to run a play like that then do it on 2nd and 1, but if you don't get the first down then give me a full-house backfield, or at least two tights and a fullback.

There were three 3rd and shorts we missed on..I must be thinking of a first half try where we missed it with Grant carrying it.

Personally I didn't like what I saw. I saw in the first half a running offense based on draws, misdirections, etc. We have an experienced OL and we are completely incapable of running straight ahead at people. In fact, when we do, we lost yardage on just about every attempt.

Defenses are going to tear us apart now until we prove we can throw it down the middle and run it up the gut. Teams will play contain and double CJ and we'll be done over and over and over again.

Play to win coach. Joe H used to jump throw the ball across the middle to the tight ends, etc. We have to attempt it to keep defenses honest.

I don't think you meant it...but Joe Hamilton did not throw jump balls. He knew EXACTLY where he was throwing it as did Godsey. Hamilton may have been short, but he was football smart and knew where the safeties and LB's were at all times based on their alignments and tendencies. Almost everything was a read for he and the receiver...and he knew if they were not "here" they would be "there".

If we're going to try to have a power running game, we better bring back the 2 back set. You're not going to have a power game running one back from the shotgun. ND wasn't running a power offense. They were allowing the OL to take the defense whichever way they wanted to go and the back was picking his spots to run. That's what we were doing in the first half.

This loss was hard to take. Again, it was a game that we were in a good possition to win but came up short. i am no football guru like the rest of you but here are ym thoughts.
-Wheeler is a baller! The call against him was rediculous.
-We have very good tallent on O, the difference imo between us and ND was the 3rd downs. I think a few of their long 3rd down conversions were a result of O holding that was not called, but other than that their payers made the plays to get it done and we did not. Sometimes, it takes just a little more than somebody calling the right play etc.
