After week 6 of the 2008 NFL season reports surfaced that Brooks was to be replaced by a veteran due to his poor performance. His gross average of 39.6 yards and net average of 32.1 yards were last in the NFL at the time.[5] On Tuesday, October 15, 2008 the Redskins signed punter Ryan Plackemeier effectively ending Brooks' tenure with the team.
 
He is with another team now. I heard that they were trying to make him change his punting fundamentals and it was really screwing with him. I could be off base, take it for what it's worth.

He certainly was Chan Gailey's favorite player.

Seriously, I hope he does make it big in the NFL. Why would a punter have a hard time transitioning from college to the pros?

Has to do with the number of steps to take before getting the punt off/speed of the rush coming at you. In college the speed is not as great as the pros, so have to be quicker at getting the punt off.

Funny thing is that I thought at Tech, Brooks did a pro-style punt with his speed of getting the punt off. But am not a scout, so not 100 sure of this.

From what I read at the time, Brooks excelled in practice, he just couldn't get it done during the games. That also seems weird though.
 
Sounds like a speed issue then -- as pro practice and college are slower than pro games. But again, I may be incorrect, as I am not a player or scout.
 
He's currently competing with the Packers' punter from last season for the starting job. Last season he had a hip injury that supposedly was an aggravation of an old injury.
 
i figured he'd be steller in the pros...hopefully hes over the injury then
 
The football is bigger in the NFL, right? Wonder if that has anything to do with it.
