We get commits for our 17 schollies available, Then do we quit or do we do like UGAy does and keep signing people. Then at the end of recruitment see how many we can actually keep, sending the rest to a Junior College for a year.

I've never heard of Tech doing this and know they wont...I just wanted to point out the absurdity that is UGAy football.

You're right. GT can't do it. ugag does it because they KNOW that some won't qualify. GT doesn't offer unless the grades are already in and make it past The Hill.

This is one heck of a recruiting class!!!

Even with the guy's we have committed, it's not over. I don't mean that negative. We'll continue to recruite all of them till signing day, Feb 7, 2007

That being said. The grades or ACT/SAT are not in yet. It's not a done deal for some of them. These guys haven't even started their Senior year.

I don't see a problem, and feel they'll all qualify.

Just saying this because I feel there is too much speculation with what the fan base calls the "Hill."

Coach Gailey and the coaching staff know more about this than the recuiting services.

This IS starting out to be the best recuiiting class on paper I've seen seen since the internet.

GO JACKETS!!

It is the best I've seen probably since Pepper's awesome class of the mid 70's. If we get Nesbitt, Dwyer and a couple more of those 4 star players that we are after it could turn into the best ever.

I don't think CCG is going to get in the same situation as Carlos Thomas 2 years ago and let a kid commit without having a real offer. I know some of the offers are conditional when they first went out and that is why a couple of the kids we are after haven't committed yet. But, I'll go out on a limb and say that we are not going to let a kid commit without them being able to get by the Hill. Not after what happened with Carlos. jmho

We have 16 available now, but have foreseeable attrition that will allow us to take 17 or 18 commitments now. 1 or 2 more commitments could be taken during season as we learn about more attrition.

Oh, that comment needs to be highlighted for MsTechAnarchy (aka Blackprix) and the other 'diareaha mouthed' followers on BBuzzOFF, the ones that continue to throw 'kiddie tantrums' everytime Chan Gailey and his staff reel in another big time recruit.

Who cares what they think.
That other board has nothing to do with Tech football. This is too positive a subject to even think about the detractors, imo.

Your right, it's just that, on BBuzzOFF, each commitment this summer brings with it a fresh round of criticism of Coach Gailey and Coach Nix. Not from all of them, some are grudgingly willing to give credit, but whats left of the hardcore haters continue to pitch a fit everytime a 3 or 4 star rated kid commits to us.

Coach Gailey and Coach Nix are an integral part of the success we are having in recruiting. And I might add that I'll bet all the new coaches we have brought in will be just as successful at the practice field and on gameday as they have been with recruiting. Not only is our recruiting improved but so will out gameday preparations.

I agree with that SLJ.
Those guys over there (most I am told) either bitch, or say nothing.
As you know, they will never be happy.

There are a few over there that I actually...

Like. 76jacket comes to mind. Seems like a great
guy & a great Tech alum.

Georgia Tech can't employ this strategy as the Hill will never use Hargrave, Fort Union, etc. that let kids commit but not attend the very next year. I think we'll end up with 19 schollies, though, as we will have plenty of attrition with some players leaving the team and Calvin probably going pro.

For schools that do sign over 25 commits, it has a lot of potential pitfalls. I remember some story of Oklahoma State completely turning away a kid who signed his LOI because they gave out too many commits. On the other extreme, Georgia had a class a few years ago with 27 signees but only something like 18 players stepped on campus. They now recruit a little bit more nationally to get more dependable players. Also, I heard much of Oklahoma's woes last season trace back to how very few (10-15) players from the class of 2003 are still on the team.
