What ONE ingredient would make this team really good?

I think if this team had a dominant cornerback that could shut down one half of the field, ala Deion Sander (hurts to say that), this TEAM would be much better. Our other DBs could double up on the other receiver, our pass rush would be much more effective.

Forget QB--a MUCH better QB won't make this team a WHOLE lot better. But a CB? Watch out!

Tony Hollings....A breakaway running back. I shudder to think where GT would be with Hollings now that AJ's steadily improving. We'd be a very explosive team.

The offense is adequate, and is beginning to show a little more variation in its plays. The biggest problem I see at this point is the inability of Tenuta to play a tight man-to-man defense against the short pass in third and long situations.

The defense is the key to this team. I had predicted we would lose only one game this year. My predictions were based mostly on the fact of nine starters returning on defense and a bevy of good linebackers, and defensive backs. The defense has fallen extremely short of my expectations.

It must improve drastically against the short passes for us to have any chance down the stretch. So, to answer your question, Tenuta has been the biggest disappointment for me. Defense against the short pass will be the key.

Sorry, but a slow footed weak armed quarterback is not going to cut it. He can't throw over the middle or down the field. His 26 completions for an average of 8 yards per is weak. He also can not run the option and he is still dropping snaps. Now I ask you where is the improvement and this past game will be as good he gets!!!

TECHROD...slow footed without a strong arm...I thought you were talking about Godsey for a minute there.

btw...Bilbo is NOT anything like Michael Vick...and Bilbo is NOT an option QB. He IS a DROP BACK PASSER with a gun for an arm. He also possesses the ability to elude...but does not have the ability to cut on a dime like Vick, Hamilton, etc.
Check out his high school numbers where each of his last two years he threw for 3,300 yds. while running for 500. Compare that to more of your true option QB's like Hollings was in high school when he ran for 1400 yds. and threw for 600 yds.

Excellent question.

Obviously a superhuman running back like Tony would make this season different.

And a Farve quality QB would do it also. A Vick may or may not have made enough difference IMHO.

A Randy Moss without the attitude would do it also.

On defense I do not feel one player could make the difference. The only thing that would make a difference to me there would be more interceptions so pick a DB like Woodson (or a Holt as much as I hate to admit it)

NCSt is going to miss that guy big time!

At least Bilbo is FAST and can escape the rush and turn a negative into a positive. He is the future.

'rod, did you watch the UVA game? AJ ran a modified option pretty well several times in that game. He also at least twice, maybe more, completed passes when he was rolling out to his right then throwing back accross the field to his left - one of the most difficult passes to throw in any offense. Give him protection, and AJ will get the job done.

From what I hear, Bilbo has not learned enough plays to run a full game of offense. I have no idea if that's because he ain't got the smarts, or if he's not motivated or if the coaches don't communicate to him well, or even if it's true. In high school an athlete of Bilbo's capability could dominate even with just a few plays, in D1, that just ain't the case.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I agree with you on a lot of what you say except the dropped snaps which have not been his fault because the center messed up each time.

FOBD. How do you know this about the centers fault not doughting you just curious. I strongly believe we would score more often with Bilbo. If you were a defensive coordinator which Tech qb. would you rather plan and scheme against? I would be much more fearful of Debo.

techrod, if you watch the replay of the snaps that were fumbled, you will see that the snap never made it up to AJ's hands. The ball slipped out of the center's hands each time as he was snapping it.

techrod, the problem with playing Bilbo so far is that his offense is very limited. He has been fairly effective as a change of pace, but when he is in the game he is the offense. He either runs it or throws it. With AJ we are much more of a varied attack, especially with the spread we ran against VA. So as a d coordinator, given what I've seen so far, I would much rather face DeBo. Now if we can get more of the package in place for him then the story may change.

And to echo what others have said, the snap problems have been the center's not the QB. It's very obvious from replays.

Please understand...I am not debating who should or should not be the QB.

I am simply stating that everyone giving Bilbo the "athletic option QB" label...and comparing him to "cut on a dime" QB's like Hamilton and Vick...is way off base.

To be more accurate on his senior stats, he threw for 3,300 yards and 32 TD's...while running for 300 yds. and 5 TD's. He has a GUN for an arm...and was even given the classification of 'drop back passer' out of high school.

As far as ability to elude, my opinion is Suggs is just fine in that area. He is athletic enough to do that job. Matter of fact, we did just fine with Godsey back there and he could not run a 6.0 forty last year with the bad knee! I just want to see him improve in the crunch time situations.

I am glad to have both of them on board as part of Tech...because either one of them could have gone anywhere they wanted.

Techrod, to you and others who double post. You can go back and delete or edit any post. You may want to delete one of the double posts.

By the way, curious about your boardname. My name is Rodney, and often it is shortened to Rod. Just wondering if you had the same name?

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">My question is: why do the coaches only call QB draws and sneaks when Bilbo is in the game? Is he not capable of handing off to the running backs? I know the coaches want to utilize his running ability when he is in there, but they really need to mix it up some for it to be successful. The playcalling is far too predictable when Bilbo comes in. QB sneak on the first play after he comes in? Yeah, nobody saw that coming.

If Bilbo doesn't know more of the offense, then we are in trouble if AJ were to get hurt, and at the rate we are losing players, it wouldn't surprise me. I find it hard to believe that Bilbo hasn't learned more of the offense, so I don't know why the coaches consistently call QB runs all the time. Bilbo's runs would be more effective if they weren't as expected as they are.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">The tv replay clearly shows that the center did not get him the ball. I tape all games and when I get home from the game view them.
