What player in GT history was "MONEY".

Re: What player in GT history was \"MONEY\".

damn what a good thread. What if StingTalk hosted a reception for the GT players thru the ages? Would that be awesome or not? I volunteer to help...

Re: What player in GT history was \"MONEY\".

Barrel: In your question can one game define a player as a 'clutch' player? I wouldn't think so but it is your question.

Using baseball as an example....Bobby Thomson hit the 'Shot heard 'round the World' but I have never heard him called a clutch player. Or Francisco Cabrera.

Now, Tommy Heinrich was nicknamed 'Old Reliable' for his ability to hit in the clutch throughout his career. Derek Jeter defines clutch across virtually all sports for his play in pressure packed AL Championship and World Series situations. Ditto Adam Vinateiri.

Again it is not my question but are you looking for clutch players across seasons or for just a singular game? Both?

Re: What player in GT history was \"MONEY\".

In our last game AT CU, I know A TN hurled on the field from exhaustion and finished the game without coming out, creating play after play protection that last 5 minutes that were so pivotal and eventful. Think I heard some other gut out O Line stories that game also. They were all spent and just willed the team down field.

That's as much gutting it out as I can tell for an O Line. You gotta love that whole group.

All OL are consistently under appreciated, and they are the heroes all the time, but that's one example of an OL groupd being clutch. One missed protection at the end of that game and it's over. A hair and we lose that one.

Wow! Lemme see...too many...too many..

So I'll go with Brent Cunningham and Robert Lavette. I cannot think of two other guys that could break a 70 or 80 yd TD run and do it more than once or twice.

They were dangerous.

Eddie Lee was "money" as well. Just too many.

Mark Price. That guy was lights out.

Hey Mover -

GREAT call on Peachtree High alum Todd Rampley, #3.

Malcom King had a great game as well - that dude was a tree-stump who could MOVE!

In my days of following Tech, closely since 1980, my all-timer would have to be Joe Ham. As many have stated, you always felt we had a chance with him in the game.

I say the shoot-out against FSU still keeps Bowden awake at night. Hamilton shredded that D all night.....

Dunno about Bobby, but it still keeps ME awake at night....

Re: One Play...

No doubt about it, "Catch 2" was GT at its very best. CJ, RB, the O-Line (see the mention of A T-N above), the coaching staff, the equipment manager, everybody operated like a well-oiled machine for the last seconds of that game. If our team could just grab those few seconds, like they did last year at Auburn and Miami, and hold them for the 13 games this season, we will see a whole bunch of "money" players and the best season GT has seen since '90.

Re: One Play...

there's a good article right now on jacketsonline.com on Scott Sisson...interesting read. Funny how we were the only school that offerred him & there's some great comments on some of the "No Thankyou" letters he got back from some of the other schools that he had sent letters/tapes to.

Enjoy the read & laugh!
Congrads Sisson & thanks for the memories...he seems really humble about the past & finds it humerous that people still talk about that kick against VA.

Re: What player in GT history was \"MONEY\".

Quote Ted Roof was another that was sorely missed if he ever was not in the game, always making big stops. Quote

I will agree with this! In '85, Gary Lee gets all the press, but without a hobbling Roof, uga's ground game beats us. When he was on the field, the dawgies were stopped in their tracks. When he wasn't, it was not pretty. Helluva career overall.

a subjective decision

but Jimmy Robinson was the most dependable ie:clutch,I 've seen in fball. I truly never saw him drop a pass --including the game winner 28-27 over unc in '72?
Joe ham next.

Re: What player in GT history was \"MONEY\".

I have to say it was the entire team in 1961 (or '62) that won the biggest game in GT history 7-6. This was the year after Graning/Holt and everybody was crazy over this one, and somehow, we beat the #1 team in the country when they had a guy named Namath playing for them. To paraphrase Bisher's article on Sunday: "On Saturday afternoon, Georgia Tech stars fell on Alabama. After a hard fought, bitterly contested grid iron contest, the number one team in the country was the number 2 team on Grant Field".
