He didn't say it was the only place for him so I really don't know what to take from that other than coach-speak after a failed romance with another woman.

I think what Chan likely learned through this process is that at 55 he's likely where he's going to be. If two teams that called him with interest eventually passed him up for younger guys it's unlikely that he would be the choice as HC anywhere else.
