Are we disappointed? No doubt.

Is this game a season breaker? Only if we let it be.

Did we deserve to win? There are things that could have gone a lot better, but over-all I saw a great effort by our SA's.

My summation and my opinion only

Offense - I was extremely glad to see CJ get his hands on the ball as much as he did tonight. I would have liked to see him have 3-5 more touches. I think there is no doubt he is the BEST WR in college football. I saw our o-line knocking the piss out of people tonight. They had an aggressive manner to them which I REALLY liked. Some breakdowns, but overall much better than at any time last year. TC HAS to touch the ball more. RB didn't hurt us with mistakes, but he did not lead us to victory. Great QB's find ways to win. We only scored 10 points against a decent, not great defense. We WILL see better defenses this year. CPN is going to have to find some more ways to be creative offensively. A good thing was ZERO turnovers. I would have made some calls differently than he did, but we all would have as well. We had some lapses at times offensively which hurt us and put a tired defense back on the field with little rest.

Defense - We have some absolute monsters on this side of the ball. I think we will wind up being better this year defensively than we were last year. I would put our front 7 up with anyones in the country, bar none. We have great athletes at DB, they just have to get game experience. If you could tell me we would give up 14 points a game this year, I say we win 8 games minimum. As has been the case for a few years this group will keep us in a lot of ballgames this year.

Special teams- I am not even going there. To pissed to discuss. Absolutely terrible IMO.

Overall, I think we have an opportunity to make some noise in the ACC conference race. Get the next two and let's get into conference play.

This will be a great game to build upon IMO.

I thought it was a bit ironic to hear what the ABC crew said. They kept talking about how CG felt lost now that he is not calling the offensive plays. Then, later, they said that when he gave up calling the plays, one of his reasons for doing so was so that he could focus more on the special teams. Guess what sucked?

I'm afraid I have to agree with you on that non-gineer. We were flat horrible in that portion of the game. Special teams are one third of a game. They can win one for you and get you beat. Tonight the did neither, but they were flat horrible!!!

I'm proud of them for playing as hard as they did. I invested alot into tonight emotionally and I am paying the price for it - I don't want to move. We will bounce back and go into Blacksburg 3-1, ready to prove we can compete for this conference crown.

I hope you're right. But at this late hour, after what I've seen, I wonder if you're being realistic, or just dreaming. I'm as big a GT supporter as there is, but I believe in calling it as I see it, too, and tonight I saw too many weaknesses to talk about a conference championship yet. Hopefully, things will improve, and you'll be proven right.

Iknow that Gailey had better get on some arses hard, and get that punt and kickoff coverage moving in the right direction.

The four most important games on the schedule are NC State, UVA, Md, and UNC. Go 4-0 in those games and you have the winning season and bowl bid. Lose to any of the four and this season is in real trouble. Wins at Clemson, VPI, or UGA or at home with Miami would then only sweeten the season.

Non-gineer. I do not mind calling it as I se it as well. There is enough there to compete for the title. Will we? who knows, but I definately think we can.

Hell - as disapointed as I am - this was the Number 2 team in the country. Whether or not they deserver that high - they are a very very good team. One call on Wheeler isn't made on Quinn and we are still playing OT football.

Several things to improve upon. Special teams is the top one. Getting the ball to Calvin is number 2. And running consistently is number 3 IMO. But to go nutty over tonight is crazy. While they may be overrated they are a good team and we went toe to toe with them.

Pissed yes - throwing in the towel no.

Outside of special teams, I thougt GT played pretty well. I think there is a lot for Tech fans to look foward to this season. I have to admit, after leaving Athens today, I was really looking foward to the GT/ND game. Kudos to ABC/ESPN, GT, and ND for scheduling this game and the marketing of this game. To me it had a "BCS bowl game" feel and the GT fans at the stadium were really into the game in the first half and late the second. It seemed to be a really loud and jacked up crowed. A great recruiting tool.

I thought GT would win and I know this loss stings, but yall will be fine. I agreed with the call on the review of Calvin's dropped catch and the personal foul on Quinn, but for some reason I feel GT was cheated some way. I think it's the combination of those 2 calls not going in GT's favor. The Quinn personal foul could have just as easily been a no-call.

I'll buy the call on the non catch by Calvin. I thought that was a good over rule.

But the personal foul on Wheeler was pitiful. No way that call should have been made. Just my opinion but he was a runner at that point who was still going up the sidelines and not a pocket QB being protected.

I'm looking for more of the same. The way this team is coached we will never get over the hump. We'll maintain this precarious position of being stuck between greatness and disaster and finish another year 7-6.

We need a coach who plays to win.

As bad as you think GT looked, most of the ACC looked pathetic today. NC State and Maryland barely beat IAA opponents and UNC, Duke, and Virginia all lost to pretty weak teams. VPI will be the crucial game for us. A win there will get this team to the 9 win territory and a possible Gator Bowl bid.

Not that it makes a difference one way or the other, but I feel exactly the opposite. After looking at the replay, I can see the call on Wheeler's hit.I don't think it was malicious. However, there was helmet to helmet contact. (FWIW,I think Reggie took a very similar hit late in the game as he was being sacked that was overlooked).

However, unless the refs saw an angle that we didn't see at home, I absolutely refuse to believe they had "conclusive evidence" to overrule CJ's catch.

Quite right. This year's team is slam-packed with potential. Our defense is strong as ever and the fatigue situation will get better in the coming weeks. Our offense showed improvement to me last night. Didn't see drops, bad decisions or excessive sacks.

We've got what it takes to give a pretty good run at this division. For right now, we just have to wait a week at a time. Not too bad after having to sit patiently for eight months, I'd say. :)

Go Jackets!

I am glad I looked before starting another post. I agree with you regarding CG's ditch digger mentality on calling plays.

Did anyone hear Wes' pregame interview with CG? I am sure it was taped earlier this week. In it, Chan made no bones about saying he "regretted" not calling the plays. He grudgingly said he thought it was for the "betterment" of the program ...at this point. His statements left me no doubt that this was not his decision.

I realize my bent for a conspiracy. That said, did anyone not see CG put on the headset in the second quarter? An easy justification for the return of the horseshat offense would be that Chan couldn't resist calling his predictable horseshat plays again regardless who was moving his lips.

On the other hand, if this was all Nix, we are in no better shape.

So when Bobby Bowden puts on the headphones he takes over the playcalling? Head coaches often put the headphones on to listen in and advise their coordinators. Or simply to ask a question about what they're seeing from the booth. Unless/until someone with real knowledge tells me that Chan started inserting plays I'm not buying.

Maybe Bobby should.
With regard to Chan, maybe I wouldn't worry about this if A) The flow of last night's playcalling creativity didn't have the brakes slammed on.
And B) If Chan hadn't been dragged into his giving up the role of OC. I thought he was going to cry when talking to Wes Durham about it.

Something Tashard Choice said when talking about Nix at OC (paraphrased of course): Coach Nix has a great relationship with his players and knows how to put them in the best situations to move the ball. Coach Nix and Reggie have a great relationship and they trust each other.
Maybe you heard the same radio spot, NCJ.

I doubt I will ever hear that CG horned his way back into playcalling even if it happened, and I'm not saying it did.
What did happen is that we turned off the switch on being aggressive, and whoever made that call shouldn't be calling plays for a team that can't go toe to toe with a deep and quality opponent for 60 minutes.
John Tenuta has figured this out. So did Ralph. These guys are/were also brilliant at what they did.
Maybe that is the real issue.

I didn't see the aggresiveness even on D in the 2nd half. We were placid on both sides of the ball and were lucky we didn't lose by two touchdowns.

The game in Blacksburg makes or breaks the season. I still do not understand why we have to play them on the road again? Also living in VA. let me tell you VT fans are way worse then UGA fans. I hate them with a passion. Evey other car here has that stupid turkey head on it... I was at the game last year and took a ton of crap from the hokie fans. I would like nothing more then to give it back to them this year in Blacksburg. I will be there in my yellow and black.Go Jackets!
