I was out of town all weekend and didnt get to see or listen to the game. Can somebody please tell me what went wrong and why we lost this one?

A short version, very similar to UVa. Tech came out very flat, secondary was getting hammered. Down 21-3 early, Tech's D scores on fumble before half to cut it to 21-10. Tech wakes up, gets to within 21-17, D goes back to sleep...28-17 Uva. We score fg, then TD..conversion fails on questionable playcall. Tech gets ball late, having moved well in 2nd half and TB looks good, gets into FG position at 25 ydline. Coaches freeze, play conservative ,holding call requires tech to try 52 yarder. Bell misses, game over, Tech fans sick. Last two minutes epitomizes Gailey's coaching philosophies. Tech fans unhappy and complaining on boards. That is Cliff notes version.

Good cliffs. 28-17 Maryland* though.

Thanks for the cliff's B.

To add to that:

Bell missed a FG when we were down 21-3, that would have cut it to 21-6.

Our first FG came when we had first and goal at the MD 6; holding call takes us back...the drive can't recover and we settled for 3.

MD's first score came on a 3rd down in which they catch a pass in the midle of the field and their guy runs untouched about 65 yards to the endzone.

After we cut it to 21-17, Maryland's ensuing drive sees a 2nd and 19, 3rd and 9, and 3rd and 11 all turn into 1st downs, and they score to push it to 28-17.

In the first half, we are moving the ball starting to come back, and Choice fumbles inside their 30. They take it right back down the field to go up 21-3.

If it wasn't one thing, it was another....at least the team never quits.....but when your coach plays "not to lose", Tech usually loses.

Since 2001, the team is 8-14 in games decided by 7 points or less. Very, very disconcerting stat.

To add to that, isn't this the third down on which WE called time out before they ran the eventual touchdown play?

Similar to the timeout we called BEFORE we got called for holding on the last drive? Not that it mattered, unless somebody said 'DON'T' on the sidelines.

Yes. MD went 5 wide and the D called a TO. We went back out on the field with a 4-2-5 defense, just like before the TO and they burned us. Happened more than once. And we didn't even blitz anyone.
