If we lost the Maryland game, which was really about a 50/50 game, and we only had an 11 game season and dropped Samford, we'd be what?

7-4, likely en-route to 7-5.

On the other hand..

One less pussy call or one foot shy on a dumb QB sneak vs ND, one less pussy call vs UGA, and one more fieldgoal vs Wake, and we'd be what?

12-1, top 10 ranked, playing in the Orange Bowl.

And that's even WITH Reggie's inconsistent, sometimes wretched, QB play.

It's just something to think about. This season could have swung either way on a few funny bounces of the ball.

But we did have a "few funny bounces of the ball" as in the ones bouncing off James Johnson's aligator arms in the past two games.:laugher:

Those bounces are what make a team great. Sometimes good or bad. In our case bad. Bad QB play causes these things to turn the wrong way.

Everybody's also forgotten about the Wake fumble in the ACCCG that barely slipped away from us.

Oh well, bounces happen and you W-L record is what it is. Still, it's too bad we happened to lose against UGA and Wake. I would trade our good bounces in the Maryland game for the bad bounces against UGA in a split second.

The fumble didn't barely slip away. The player didn't drop on the ball and cradle, instead tried to reach it in while he was dropping and "slipped" it right under his body and away. We didn't make a lot of plays against Wake quite frankly.

Well, I can't say I remember the play in as much detail as you do, but I just remember our player having the ball in his hands and it slipped away. I usually say that's a freak occurance.

Agreed. Even our superstar dropped a wide open pass thrown to his chest.

how bout if we would have beaten ND, Ugag, and Wake.

All those games were very winnable. We would be top 5 w/ only one poor performance.

Even in the clemson game it was 7pt game at half. With a few breaks would could be playing for NC.

The problem with the "CanChan" crowd is that they only think of the negative "what ifs?".

I have certainly had my gripes and disagreements concerning CCG and some of the decisions and peaks and valleys that have defined his tenure thus far. I am still honest about the fact that I didn't want him hired to begin with.

But at the same time I have been conscious of the fact that the program has certainly been better in the last decade then it has since the '50s, and CG is responsible for 5 of those 10 straight winning seasons. This year could have been better, this year could have been worse. Clemson was the only game GT clearly had no shot in for whatever reason (Clemson playing the game of it's year had something to do with it).

It doesn't excuse the fact though that I think the Jackets let a great opportunity slip away to really accomplish some things this year. We should/could be sitting at 11-2, or as 'law' has pointed out with ND, 12-1 (remember the lucky deflection that gave the Irish a first down on their last drive?)

We're sitting at 9-4, a good year, but a real disappointment when you think back to pre-UGA, a 9-2 record and the possibilities that were ahead of us.
