our backup QB's this Saturday vs. Duke? I want to see Taylor Bennett get some quality PT this weekend. I want to see what Johnathan Garner can do with the football. Dad, what does Chip say.....is Garner the real deal? Is what the guys on the Hive say true? Is having Reggie Ball play QB our only chance of winning a game? For the life of me I cannot see why when he is playing his worst...... just stinking up the place, our backups never see the field. Are our backups that bad? or is Reggie's psyche so delicate that he cannot be replaced for a down or a series to get his head on straight? With two highly touted QB's likely to sign in February, (one actually enrolling in January, I think) and Booker able to play after sitting out the NCAA mandated 1 year after transferring from Auburn who is going to get left out of the picture? Bennett will have two years of eligibility left. Garner will have three left. Ingram will have four years. Who will leave, who will get Bilboed (moved to another position)? If we have absolutely no chance of winning with either Bennett or Garner in the game then why did we recruit these guys? Why are we wasting scholarships on them particulary when we are on probation and scholarships are in short supply? I feel for these guys. And with the way that they have been treated, don''t you think that it will be harder to recruit QB's in the future when they see that Gailey/Nix will stick with the anointed starter no matter how bad they play, or how bad they are dinged up?

I think the chances are good.

With the Coastal clinched, I think Reggie plays some (since it'll be his last at BDS), then when we take a decent lead he will give way to Taylor Bennett.

Well, the chance is slim according to CCG.

Don't look for Tech to sit Ball against Duke, even with the ACC championship game berth clinched. "We're going out to win the ball game. We're not going out to rest people," Tech coach Chan Gailey said Sunday. "We've got things to work on if we're going to be the best we can be when we walk into that game in Jacksonville."

"It still is bothering him," Gailey said of Ball's injury. "There's no question he's banged up. I don't worry about it being a major factor in his play."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously I'm looking at this from the outside-looking-in, a fan's perspective if you will, but I just do not agree with that last sentence there. Yes, there is no question RB is banged up, but I cannot agree with not worrying about it being a major factor in his play. If it's not a major factor, then what is the contributing factor to RB running less, missing open receivers, and losing his focus by getting wrapped up in jawing with the opposition?

We're gonna have to build up a big lead to see Taylor Bennett and I'm not so sure we will get that big lead.

helluva, you're reading way too much into the QB situation. Every team recruits more QBs that will ever play. You have to because you never know who will pan out. Every team thinks the backups should get more playing time. Gailey, like many coaches, simply doesn't believe is playing two guys. Those on the roster next year will get their shot. The younger guys will get another shot at some point down the line.

Well if we are up by 3 or 4 TD's, and we don't play some backups at some point.........I don't know what to think. With Reggie apparantly still pretty banged up he sure needs to be healthy when we play the poodles.

I sure didn't understand when TB came in very late in the Clumsum game he was not allow to attempt a pass.

Gailey is a dumba$$

If he stubbornly goes the remainder of the year playing noone but Reggie, even with him hurt. Its almost cost us the last two games and it will certainly cost us one or two of the next three.

The pro coaches will yank a QB that is not performing. Steve Spurrier routinely uses this method to get production out of his QB's. My point is if they are not good enough to see the field, when Reggie is clearly playing hurt, and/ or stinking it up, then why are they taking up scholarships? If they want to play on the colllegiate level, then someone has sold these young men a bill of goods. I hope that the only reason that they are staying is that they want that sheepkin from Georgia Tech.

Ramblinwise called it

we need better QBing. We also need a #2 QB and some exp for next yr.WE got NONE of those from unc game and probably won't for dook.

Next year, we'll be right back where we started when Reggie became the QB without any experience.

We will beat Duke 10-0 so Reggie will play every minute. If you've noticed, we are not capable of blowing anybody out of the stadium. Every other college in the country blows weak teams out so there subs get playing time AND the starters gets rest.

Instead we support the rules change so there are less plays during the game "so the players can handle the season". Every other good football program handles rest time by beating up on weak teams early and then keeping the foot on the pedal. We don't and never will.

Sorry, but I think a QB who's hitting 35% of his passes for the last four games should be put down until his injury is healed. We have way too much talent to be doing what we're doing.

In effect, I believe that a weak Bennett is still a whole lot better than a hurt Reggie who can't run (worst of all possible problems for him to have).

Meechigan didn't blow out ball state
Ohio St. didn't blow out Illinois
Texas didn't blow out KSU
USC didn't blow out ASU

I think you get my point

So not all teams blow out lesser opponents all the time. Why harp on GT because we didn't blow out UNC.

We have come back from behind to win 3 or 4 games this year, in years past that would not have happened. this teams different. Let's enjoy our coolade for once.

Critiquing a game is one thing but bitching and moaning and finding every little thing wrong with Tech is just plain absurd in my opinion.

If people are going to analyze everything Tech does lets' do it fairly.

Hey, what's wrong with getting icing too? Like all lifetime Tech fans, I'm thrilled that we get to represent the Coastal, but I want more and I think this team has what it takes to get more. That's all.

I am generally a Reggie supporter however my concerns date back to his injury and performance since, not just the UNC game.

Go back and look. Reggie has generally been ineffective since Clemson except for one excellent drive against Miami late, one very long TD against Miami, a few breakaway passes at the NCS game (who was playing no defense at all).

I just don't understand why as one Hiver pointed out "that the QB is considered untouchable"? If Philip Wheeler was hurt and he wasn't effectively able to do his job, then he'd sit too.

It is necessary to have a backup ready in case an already hurt Reggie goes down. We have had several opportunities to have our backup get some playing time such as the 4th. qtr. of the Clumpson game when Reggie was really struggling and the game was pretty much history.
If that backup is needed I for one would feel more comfortable if our backup had more reps under his belt.

The coaches have chosen not to do that, and it appears most fans do not agree with them.I feel most other coaches would not agree with this decison either.

This is a great analogy for comparison.

Using all my powers of empathy here, I can only imagine the difference being that P Wheeler's position has to make plays.
While in the case of RB at QB, CG just wants no mistakes. It has taken Chan 4 years to properly train our quarterback to throw a souvenir ball at the first sign of a defender.
Chan may feel with our defense, he can win with anything other than offensive turnovers.

Bennet's biggest problem to Gailey might be that Taylor throws the ball into or toward coverage during practice.

That's my best shot.

Arkansas would not be Arkansas if Nutt didn't change his outlook completely after the USC game. We have Clemson type games every year and nothing ever changes. What good was it playing a hurt Reggie against Clemson late in the game? I agree with you.

Could be, but then he shouldn't be #2.

Bennett's problem probably really is that he is throwing into coverage at practice. That's because he actually thinks his job is to complete passes! And from four years of watching Tech football, that's not a priority with Chan. He'd rather not risk throwing an interception instead of aggressively using the #1 WR in the history of the ACC.

Sorry, I have been a supporter of Chan but I couldn't resist.

Throwing into double coverage reguardless of the WR (CJ) is acceptable only if and when you have a QB that is ACCURATE ours is not that is why CPN dose not do it.
We also have a better chance of winning if we minimize turnovers because of our stout D.

Not quite. TB will be in his 3rd collegiate season next year. That doesn't even remotely compare to true freshman status.

correct me if I'm wrong but didn't TB have a pretty darn good game against UConn with about 4 hours notice that he was starting? And that UConn team was better than the Dukies we'll be playing Saturday.
