What\'s the difference between Gailey and Saban??
Saban lost a combined 62-7 to two of LSU's biggest rivals (Bama and Auburn) and lost handily to a VT team.
Tech lost 51-7 to UGA (the SEC champ most likely) and played pitifully in doing so. Tech also was trounced by Maryland. Every other game we won or were close to winning.
Would you guys that want to fire Chan also fire Saban?
I know that Saban won the SEC last year and is a great recuiter so maybe that makes a difference. Is it too early to say Chan is a bad recuiter? I think so, but maybe he is. Is the difference that Chan has not won a Div. 1 conference championship?
I am just wondering because I think most people on here would trade Saban for Gailey, but why?
Is it just Chan's demeanor that bothers people? His record wasn't that bad. We beat some good teams (UVA and NCSU). LSU trounced a good team at Florida. Both of us had disappointing seasons though.
Why should Chan be treated any differently than Saban, or O'Leary or Macwhorter or Mac Brown or Lou Holtz? I mean, c'mon all of these coaches had games in which their teams were pummeled. If it happens too often, then Chan needs to go. But, one year is not enough in my opinion.
I was embarassed by the way we played against UGA, but I also think that Chan was. If he isn't, he should be fired because he has lost the desire to win. But, I think he probably was embarassed and hopefully that embarassment will motivate him and the team next year. His record and getting pummeled by UGA is not enough to fire him. If there are other reasons, then let's hear them.
In the end, I want what is best for the program whether it is Chan staying or going.
I will end this by saying I know nothing about the inner workings of the program or the AA so there may be reasons that I don't know about that make Chan a bad choice to remain as head coach.
But, strictly, from an outsider football fan's point of view, it looks silly to talk about firing a guy like Gailey after one season.
