What's up in 207/206? and cops busy

2 year season ticket holder here.

We usually tote a little one (5 year old) with us to games, but bedtime kept us from taking the little one to see the ND last year and we found out after that game that no one that young should be subjected to a night game at BDS.

Getting to the cops busy part, someone on our row was removed for openly displaying his can beer where the police could see him. Looked like most of his group followed. Things looked busy higher in the section. Late third or early 4th quarter, a police woman sat behind us and stated that she was tired and usually just watches the games when she works the stadium. She wanted to know what was going on?

Were things worse than ND last year all around the park? Did more sidewalk fans and a poor showing by the home side give bored drunks little else to do? A few times we had to run off the stand at the rail drunks/phone fans blocking views from seating near the tunnel entrance. Was it this bad everywhere or only in the cheap seats?

I think the rowdiness of the crowd is directly proportional to how badly we're getting jobbed by the officials.

I resent the slur directed at so called "sidewalk fans" since I guess I fall in that category. I bleed gold and white and have attended games with my Tech man Daddy since I was 3 years old. I am a graduate of a different university but couldn't be a truer Tech fan. My husband, six year old daughter, brother and sis in law don't miss any home games and take in at least one road game a year.

That being said I don't think non-Tech grads are any more rowdy than Tech grads. The group you saw ejected are all Tech grads. I sit in 206 (and have for 25 years) and we are loud and involved in the game but we don't abuse those around us. Those guys have abused those around them before - and our policeman has thrown some of them out before - at our request!

Don't slam sidewalk fans or blame us for rowdy behavior. And BTW - those seats aren't cheap! We paid the premium seating tax like the old folks downstairs did!;)

I'm ashamed to say I was in 207 and was guilty of possibly traumatizing a small kid in front of me but I was so fired up and liquored up that I forget I'm not in the student section anymore. I'll keep working on making that transition a little better for those around me.

I did see some guy get his shirt ripped up by someone though, another Tech fan too I think.

Good to see our fans actually producing a tangible response. Better then the typical 1/2 and 1/2 crowd with our half being a bunch of geriatrics on oxygen who can't yell for fear of stroke.

No insult intended, sorry if it came off that way. I just wondered if the 'big game' atmosphere that most here including me want, a full stadium of loudly cheering fans there to watch and be involved in the game had attracted non-partisans who became bored with a less than stellar on-field match-up. Maybe a better definition of so-called sidewalk fans is needed. btw - the dip who got thrown out was wearing gold, just too young and too drunk to exercise any good judgment.

I'm not complaining about not feeling comfortable bringing the little to the game. No real problems where I was seated. AND glad to have buzzgal and the crew at games - especially if loud!

There's seldom if ever anything extracurricular going on in my section.

I agree with beej:

It's damn hard to maintain composure when calls get as bad as they did in the 3rd quarter. At least when we're on the road and getting jobbed I can thrown my nerf ball at my television.

In general, we noticed more active enforcement of the no alcohol in the seating area in our section. Patrons were checked and rebuffed back into the lounge area with beer or wine.

In the past, there seemed to be more of a "blind eye" as it relates to people bringing it into the seating area.

It really got strict when the throwing of objects commenced.

I don't recall us ever throwing stuff on the field vs UGA, even though that's clearly our worst rival, primarily because UGA brings SEC officials, who by their very nature don't suck.

I'm in 206. I would have loved to see a little more action.

That was me that got my shirt ripped. I was cussing a little bit too much, we got in a little verbal altercation, he asked me to "step outside", I laughed in his face, he ripped my shirt, I got security, he gave me money for a new shirt, we made up, I went and bought a new shirt with the money he gave me, I cut down on the cussing and we made it through the rest of the game sans incident.

This happened in the 3rd quarter when we were getting hosed by the refs, so I think everyone's tempers were a bit amped at the time.

I am a little surprised about the cops comment. I hardly ever see a cop in BDSGF anymore. If you went back to the 70's there were cops all over the place and on the sidelines.

I think there should be more cop presence at the games IN THE STANDS where they are needed. We had an altercation at the UGAg game 2 years ago in section 105 and it took about 5 minutes for someone to find a cop. It seems like all the cops on campus want to do is lock up MIP students anyway.
