Wheeler Leaving?

Read somewhere (can't remember where) that Phillip Wheeler has asked for one of the NFL draft day assesments. Man, it'd be tuff to lose both K-Mike and Wheeler.

Hopefully it's only a knee-jerk reaction to the last couple games and Tenuta/Gailey can talk him out of it.

Considering he didn't even make 1st team All-ACC, and no mention in All-America or Butkus award voting, I can't imagine him going until 4th or 5th round at earliest - Hopefully that will be enough for him not to submit.

that would be a huge mistake

he's got good wheels but he needs to bulk up get more physical to impress NFL scouts. He definitely needs to work on his pass coverage.

I think that he was second team all-american on one of the AA teams.

Why would this have anything to do with the last 2 games? He's a junior who's gotteny plenty of pub from TV and he's checking his options. That's what he should do if he has a desire to play pro. If it looks like he should stay I'm sure he will.

Philip Wheeler has ZERO intention of going pro this year...he is simply seeing how hard he needs to work during the next year from the point he is at now.

I have to agree with this. There's no doubt Wheeler will be able to play at te next level. He just can't make the jump this year and expect to get drafted at a decent spot.

I hope that's all it is, I would HATE to see him go. What other LB's are gonna step up next year I wonder? Someone always steps up, just anxious to see who it is, we need an emotional player like K-Mike to fill in for K-Mike.

This is common practice and nothing to get worried about. Nothing "knee jerk" about it. He gets a free assessment about where he might end up in the draft and has nothing to do with being upset at coaches. Thats a ridiculous assessment.

Here's the latest official draft assessment request list - Doesn't show Wheeler (yet), but does include Calvin (although whyhe'd need an assessment, I don't know - He'd be an almost certain Top 5 pick).

Nice to see several Ugag, F$U, THugU, etc players on the list - Hopefully they'll all decide to go in the draft.

BTW - Saw somebody's projection of next year's draft. Had Calvin going to Tampa Bay at (I think) #3 overall. Ted Ginn was right after him. Obviously, assuming both leave early.

When Calvin is in the NFL...I sure hope he is in the southeast. Tampa Bay would be great.

I fear that he could end up with the Lions...or even worse the Raiders. I just cannot see him wearing the silver and black with the entire skull and cross-bones thing.

I've had that same fear..of him ending up with the Raiders that is. That is the last team that I would like to see him get drafted by, and after that any team that's not in the NFC south is fine.

Because I can't really expect much from the Falcons, my dual favorite team is the Bears. If Chicago somehow landed CJ, look for their organization to try to repeat what the Saints have done with Brees.

Sorry to say though, that I have a vision of CJ in a Cleveland uniform during his first contract.

Most certainly better than a ugly Oakland Raiders uniform!

I would hate to see him in a Tampa Bay uni ...which could be a possibility.
