This goes back a few years, but I remember being at the GT-South Carolina game in '89. It was the week of Hugo, and power was still out in much of Columbia. With my business, no power at home, and numerous Hugo related missions (I was in the National Guard), it had been a rough week. The USC fans were practicing acting like Clemson and UGA fans, and were giving the few GT fans there a hard time. We weren't much of a threat to them. We hadn't won many games the year before (1 or 2), and Ross didn't look at all like the coach he had been it Maryland. But the Jackets hung tough against the favored Gamecocks and kept the game close. Then late in the game Shawn threw a perfect pass - a sure TD for the lead and probably the win - to a wide open GT receiver, who dropped it. A groan went up in Williams-Brice. The Gamecock faithfull knew at that instant that they had just been given the game. And the GT team knew, at that instant they had given the game away, that they could have won it - should have won it. You could see it on the field, in their faces. The losers had a team meeting afterward, vowed not to lose again, and like magic, became winners - they only lost one more that year, lost none the next year, won in Orlando on New Years day.

What I saw Saturday night was a team that in losing, learned that it could have won, should have won. They will win that type of game in the future - the very near future. I have been a certified Chan Basher, but I can see the team has completely bought in to what he is doing. We have great on the field leadership in young RB and in our seniors like Key Fox. We are playing better each week. The coaching is beter each week. That's all, as a fan, that I can ask for. The SA's on the field support CG. That's enough for me. I can't say how many more games we will win this year. But how ever many it is, I am not going to worry about coaching, play calling, substitutions, or game palns. I am going to sit back and enjoy the rest of the story as it unfolds. It's going to be a lot of fun. We have a coaching staff who has the team's confidence. Therefore, they have mine as well. That includes CG.

We actually had won 3 games in 1988. One of the reasons that South Carolina was so excited about beating Tech in 1989 is that it was revenge for Tech stomping South Carolina 34-0 in Atlanta.

On your other point, a loss in never a win...certainly not in a game like Saturday night at FSU when we had the game won and blew it by our coaches playing not to lose.

But the 3-3 tie against Notre Dame in 1980 sure seemed like a win....in fact the AJC headline was Tech beats Notre Dame 3-3.

Beeware, When are you going to realize that your views on Chan
place you in a HUGE minority? I
cannot understand why you have so much hate in you for a man who has so much respect from his peers and most importantly his players.
You must be a very miserable and unforgiving soul. I have nothing but pity for people like you.

BW, ever hear of losing the battle but winning the war? Sorry, but while I have agreed with you on many of your points re. CG, I can't agree that they merely played "not to lose" Saturday. What they did was play one deep against 3-4 deep. Just like the old saying - if you can't win their hearts and minds with love, superior firepower is always a valid alternative. We got beat by superior fire power, but not by superior desire, or coaching. Down there in the pits, during the game, its a lot tougher to see it all clearly than it is from the stands. With your clear view of how to coach winning football, why are you up on the stands? You should be making $1x10**6 + down there on the field. Look forward to your selection as head coach.
