It's like I said when this process started. If you're not going to pay a competitive wage, then you're not going to get or retain an elite coach.

Gailey was the 51st highest paid coach in Div I-A last year. His salary was banned at the same bracket of his winning percentage. 55 percent.

We're going so cheap that we're sweating being outbid by a Conference USA Team.

And we're overpaying for a guy running the best Div I-AA offense in the business. A guy who's other suitors are Duke and SMU. We don't tolerate a Head Coach beating those teams out for recruits. Why are we tolerating an AD beating out those teams for a Head Coach?

Thank gosh for Michigan otherwise this would be the worst search that I've ever seen. We are drag racing to irrelevance.

Yoda, who do you want. What highly sought after coach do you think we should hire? I think Johnson is as sought after as any other coach out there.

What are you talking about?

PJ is just as good a coach as Grobe.

Nebraska hired an unproven DC with no prior HC experience.

Michigan interviewed Ball State's HC.

Are those guys fishing in the kiddie pool, too?

The only thing I can think that he meant is we should've stayed with Gailey since he was a relative bargain. We knew the financial situation and the market demands for coaching salaries before we canned Chan...

The only people that were interested in Gailey were Duke and Baylor. That's not exactly the deep end

Actually SMU approached Gailey before PJ. They even told him they were prepared to talk $1.8 million. He told them politely that he was not interested....that he was not seeking a rebuilding position.

I brought all of this up 3 weeks ago before Gailey was fired. It was the main reason I said he'd be back one more year.

Dems and others all said money was not a problem.

Uhhhh-huh.

I assumed since Drad pulled the trigger he would have had all the money issues from the Gailey buyout to having to pay a new coach more than Gailey all worked out.

It appears DRad is either not ready or not able to really "energize the fan base."

So what major D1-A coaches are available for us to hire? At ANY salary? Hmmm...seems the ones who are "good" and winning their games don't want to leave.

kirbee: How do you know how much money we have or don't have? Do you work in Accouting at the GTAA? Didn't think so.

How about the claim that DRad had a plan in place and a coach in his back pocket? That one has proven correct also. We're probably headed down the Miami road and we'll end up with the current DC and then turn around and hire Pat Nix from them. That would make some Miami fans happy.

Better the kiddie pool than the cesspool

These words will probably be eaten within 10 years as WC becomes a terrific head coch and the GT big money guys (who are worse than Louder at Auburn in my opinion) will regret the holier than thou attitude of "we can't hire him, he went to Georgia".

If all the speculation is true, I hope that DRAD tells GT to, in the words of the Killer (mr. jerry Lee lewis) "you can kiss my arse". When your boss does not let you do your job, it is time to move on! Remember that Clough is the same guy who approved the extension for Chan. He has no credibility in my mind!

Macdaddy2, i really dont care that WM played for UGA, if he had HC experience i might could get on the bandwagon. That said, my remark was intended to the one who started this thread about KIDDIE POOL, Paul Johnson is not from the KIDDIE POOL, he is a proven winner as a HC.

Assuming....Ya think he might want to bounce that whole plan off the President first?

lol on Pat Nix.

I'm pretty pessimistic regarding this process

However, I'm not so frustrated as to suggest we would stoop to bringing Nix back.

That is just too negative for me or anyone.
