Where's the Beef?

Looking over our commit list / etc, we're clearly lacking beef. Hey recruiting guys, how many schollies do we have left to give, and how likely are we to fill them with linemen?

OL is probably the most difficult position to scout from everything I've read on recruitment. A lot of high school OLinemen don't fill out and/or perform well enough until their Senior year so generally the staff evaluates them during the Fall before they graduate so offers come much later than for the more skilled positions. I think towards the end of the season we'll see a lot more BEEF committing.
At least I hope so anyways.

I agree it's hard to scout for beef, particularly OL beef, but that's why IMO we need to be taking a minimum of 3, maybe 4 guys a year at that spot. Beef is what differentiates great teams from good-but-inconsistent ones, particularly in today's recruiting model where the skill guys are all fishing for PT.

From what I hear we're giving out 23-25 ships this year, with the remaining focus being on OL, DL, and TE. I wouldn't get too caught up in the numbers because recruits like Uzzi and Barnes can play both O and D, just depending on our need.

My guess recruiting will be slow through November

I would not look for many commitments until the "questions" surrounding Coach Gailey's status are settled which I assume will not happen to after the UGAG game. In my opinion, the uncertainty is impacting our recruiting and I am worried that it could impact us with recruits such as Uzzi, Barnes, and the big lineman from Thomasville who have other choices.

How do you KNOW that our recruits (other than the handful contacted by Winklejohn based on a semi-fictitious story) are even aware that there are any "questions" regarding his status? All I see are some cry-baby posters pretending that the program is mediocre and on the decline in posts on a couple message boards that they most likely don't even frequent. As far as anyone knows for sure, our HC has multiple years left on his contract.

I'm just saying we never had a beef problem when Lums on Peachtree ran the training table.

Boy, those beer soaked kraut dogs were great!

Coaches at other schools know about the speculation and you they will play that to try and create an advantage with recruits.

And last season, they were supposedly playing the same card. Then, we had the whole Chan to the NFL talk. Our recruits held together. If Gailey is truly on the hot seat specualtion-wise, then so are about 87 others and we could plant speculative reports on at least 20 others for everyone to use as a hammer against them.

I think you'll find that is done considerably less than you might suspect.

I think the biggest attraction to the class last year was the Big A with lots of T&A and the fact that some of the early signees were big cheerleaders and held the class together. Chan covered the parents concerns.

Or it could be that Chan Gailey is not the big draw for these recruits.
How many fans would still want to desperately cling to this man if Giff, the school, the ATL and etc. were actually doing the work?
We will be better off without him.
