In your opinion. Which way is the program headed?
1. Forward
2. Stagnant
3. Backward
Why?

I'll post later. It's din-din time.

2. I think we were poised to really move forward last year prior to the ugag game. Our performance since then has been nothing to write home about. We make fun of Miami's record since we beat them a couple of years ago, but we're 5-5 since the loss to ugag (5-6 including that game). How can we call that anything but stagnant?

What's more frustrating than the record though is that we shouldn't be where we are. We have the talent to be better but we aren't making the plays when it matters on a consistent basis.

1. But not fast enough, most things are looking up. Talent is better then ever. One thing is staying stagnant.

Stagnant. If talent is improving so much, why are we not seeing better results? We are stuck in neutral. No scratch that, WE ARE neutral.

We are the definition of stagnant. There should be a picture of Georgia Tech football next to stagnant in the dictionary.

We're slowly getting better. Recruiting is the best sign, no?

Don't ya think CCG has had a lot to overcome? I mean a lot of setbacks. I know that's all part of the game and all, but some of it wasn't his fault. Maybe.

I know it's making excuses too, but what's come up in the last few years that makes you wonder 'What Woulda Coulda Shoulda Been'?
  • Limited scholarships
  • Tony Hollings' Sudden Knee Malfunction
  • Flunkgate
  • The Reuben Houston Distro Corp.
  • C. Johnson Catches Early Departure to Detroit
  • more?

The program is in better shape then when Gailey took over after George's last year. If there was a change to occur in a couple months it would I think improve rapidly not decline, recruiting is going up we need a few other things to improve now.

IMHO, the program is steadily improving.

Results have lagged a bit, and there is certainly room to get better, but by and in large I believe strongly our program is headed in the right direction...Mike

Just playing devils advocate Tampa, but if the program continues to improve but results continue to lag, doesn't that mean we're stagnant or declining?

Yes, at some point that would be a fair statement, I just don't think we're there.

I see improvement on both sides of the ball, in the coaching, and in recruiting -- despite some challenges that have hamstrung other programs.

Now if we can just beat Georgie, win the ACCCG, get into double-digit wins, and a bit better bowl, I think we would all agree....Mike

That is alot of "if's".
This program is stagnant and the wins and losses show that. We have consistently stagnated at five losses a season and except for the 9 win last season have had 7 wins. Yeah the recruiting may be better but it has to show on the field and that has yet to happen.

Recruiting- upward

Player character/discipline- upward

On-field play- ask me the first week of December...right now I would just answer "same" with a shot at being great (different from 70's and 80's where we did not even have a shot).

You're right. We're also a fickle group of fans, and I'm not sure anything less would satisfy everyone.

Now that I think about it, I probably should have added "win another MNC" to the list of "ifs".

;)

Have fun...Mike

On several posts I have expressed my delight with GT having 10 consecutive winning seasons --being happy that the program has not turned in a 3-4 win season --hasn't stunk up BDS since the waning weeks of BL.

To simplify (not looking at passing #'s, play-calling, special teams, recruiting, scholarship #'s, etc.. but looking at W's & L's) --five losses over the last five seasons --all to Tobacco Road teams-- have really prevented GT from taking that next step in conference. I know it can be said for every game lost that should have been won --there are games won that could have been lost.

I put some numbers up last week:

ACC wins/losses: 2002-2006

VT ............. 20- 5 80.0%
FSU ........... 29-12 70.7%
BC ............. 10- 6 62.5%
GT ............. 24-17 58.5%

GT is in the upper-third of the conference in terms of wins and losses --yet I'm not satisfied with a 58.5% record over the past five seasons --because I think it should be better. Forget about the 'wins that could have been losses' --you won those games --and if you can beat Auburn, Clemson, Miami and VT you should beat the likes of Duke, NCSt, WF and UNC as well.

I thought that the program was on it's way to turning the corner last year prior to the UGA game.

I still think the decision to stick with last year's starting QB throughout some pretty dismal performances at the end of the season prevented GT from perhaps winning both the UGA game and ACCCG.

More stats:
QB comparison over the last four games of the season:
RB- P: 32/88 (36%) - 371 yds - 3 td - 6 int
TB- P: 25/41 (61%) - 452 yds - 5 td - 2 int

I'll never understand the rationale behind TB not seeing a couple of series somewhere in the UGA & ACCCG games. It might not have affected the outcome of either game --but for me personally I would feel a bit better about the HC right now.

*The program is not moving forward
*The program is not moving backwards
*The program is stagnant --but the opportunity is still there for it to edge forward.

When GT can consistently defeat the teams on it's schedule that it should --and I'm not saying each and every time you're favored you should expect a W-- but good programs consistently win these games AND most importantly GT needs to beat UGA.

Chan Gailey needs a win in the worst way against the in-state rival.

Very slowly forward, although I agree with Red that issues such as recruiting and recruiting good kids is headed upwardly on a quick pace.

Would you mind explaining what changed you think are needed.

Stagnant. Losing to Georgia and fumbling away opportunities is a sign of a program that lacks mental toughness and perhaps even character. I am not impressed with recruiting and win loss records when the ACC is a shell of what it was as recently as 7 years ago.
