Is there a need so overpowering that burning a redshirt is justified? Ideally I think Paul Johnson would redshirt the entire class. Probably made a committment to Stephen Hill to play right away, and maybe Watts gives added depth at LB, but Linebacker is a position where that added maturity of body is such a difference maker. If Sweeting and Thomas were five star players I'd say yes, but are they really going to help us as true freshmen?

J.C. Lanier
Stephen Hill
Izaan Cross
and either Jemea or Roderick

*Lanier (lock)
*Jemea Thomas. I would have said yes until today (Tarrant). So no!
*If Tevin gets moved from QB, then Sims or Luallen will burn a redshirt. CPJ needs 3 capable QB's in this offense (see Gardner Webb and UNC).
*Stephen Hill (80%). If he makes the 2-deep. I would say Bebe, Melton, Sims are top 3, so he has to beat out Cone, Clyburn, Fisher, Moore, or Mckayhan for 4th spot.
*I expect one of the DE's to play. Probably Dieke since he will be in Spring practice.

the fact is we have gotten a lot of good recruits because they knew they would play as freshman so I would never saw we should redshirt freshman. We need to edge for recruits to know that they will play right away if they're good enough. To be sure most will redshirt and most will benefit from it, but there are always exceptions.

I'm not entirely sure Lanier would not RS. We have TJ Barnes who will almost definitely start, it just depend on who else is there to be DT really.

I think the way Coach Johnson plays it is that he starts the best 22 but plays most of the best 55 to 60. I think that is one thing that made our team much better this past year. Starters are no longer guaranteed their positions and must earn them in practice and on the field. He is not afraid to substitute and does so liberally so everyone that works hard and shows ability has a real opportunity to get on the field and play.

As far as the freshmen are concerned, if any of them show they are better than the top 55 to 60 in front of them experience wise, they will definitely see the field. It will be up to them to demonstrate they have the work ethic and talent to play immediately.

Go Jackets!

Watching Booker run the triple option was thing of beauty, much like seeing Rosie O'Donnell at a strip club.

Dead on, Jerry. These kids come to play football and not sit on the bench and watch some guy they are outperforming in practice play in their place because they've been there longer.

Funny how that works. Gailey - the laid back guy has this entrenched seniority system where your job was safer than a government employee whereas CPJ who spent 8 years in an environment built around seniority has a system where everyone wakes up with the same rank regardless of what their rank was when they went to bed.

Booker didn't come here to play option football and made a hell of an effort to help the team by doing his best to learn and execute it.

No one really blames Booker for his performance but that doesn't mean it didn't go well. We can appreciate the fact that this backup QB did better than LSU's did for so much of their season.
