I have comcast cable and hate the service, also the reception is bad on some channels and they never can get it completly right. Dont like the football offerings also.

Any suggestions on either Dishnetwork or Direct Tv ? Which one is best value? For college and Nfl football coverage and also service? I have 8 Tv's in the house and the disadvantage in the past with satellite is that they make you pay extra for the seperate box's for each tv. I like to have the abilty to be able to have each tv to to be on a different channel and with cable that is ok, but with satellite you have to have a seperate box for each tv. Any suggestions on my best value?

I would like to make my decision today, in order to place the order quickly and get installation before Thursday, also, the deadline for early bird discount on Espn gameplan is this week.

I have always been happy with Direct TV. They usually have better deals on the gear, plus you own the equipment vs. leasing w/ Dish. For some reason, I feel like DT subs out to much better installers. Better w/ aiming and placement of the dish. A GT alum actually did my install at my house. As far as channels I think they are both about the same. Sports package is pretty cheap w/ DT.

Why the rush before Thursday? Our game's not being broadcast except for online via ESPN360.

I'm quick on my feet , just like the perfect option QB...:laugher:
Done deal with direct Tv, will be installed Wed. I took 76's advice...

In answer to your question, I love GT but also college football in general...I want access to every possible game come Thursday....

I went with DISHNETWORK Over Direct Tv... DirectTV

no-showed me on Wednesday and their office people were complete jerks..I just called Dish Network and now have an appt. to go with them...

after this experience I wouldn't recommend Direct Tv to my worst enemy (Any Bulldog) :laugher:
They no-showed us and were complete jerks when I called the office..In researching the complaints on them tonight on the web, evidently they no show a lot of people and have many complaints on their service..

It can happen to anyone I guess.

Well, DirecTV (probably just like Dish) contrats out the local installation service so technically you should be upset with the local contractors. Although, since DirecTV chooses who they contract out to, I guess they're ultimately responsible.

Contact,

The thing that got my wife and I extremely upset was the way their office reacted...Accepted no responsibilty at all and no applogies and basically came across to us very strongly that they didn't care and we could go elsewhere....

You can never get to their home or corporate office (When we finally did, they immediatley forwarded us back to the local service dept.)and when you ask one of the rep's to speak to a supervisor, they tell you " I am the supervisor" and there is no one else you can talk to. It is ALL rehearsed...They have all the (PAT) answers down.

I'm telling you, I run a business and have never come across as sorry of an organization like Direct Tv..I'm warning anyone else, BEWARE...Do not sign up for that 2 year commitment, you will regret it.

I was with Dish Network about 3 years ago, and there were few problems and the service was good.

I have no discretion with or loyalty to either, but my service w/ DT has been impeccable. From installation ordering packages. Other than that I haven't had to deal w/ them on a service basis, so I hope when I move that won't be a problem. My pops has Dish and he is happy w/ them as well. I get the feeling that when a problem does happen, one may get the same problems w/ either. Glad you got hooked up man.

Had horrible experience with Direct TV last year as well. Ordered the service in early August as we were moving into a new home, and wanted to try satellite rather than cable for a change. Needed 5 TV's (with 3 HDTV) set up, and wanted it in time for the first games of the season. Was given a date of the Wednesday before our first game -- which would work out well, as that was before the start of the NFL season. That Wednesday -- no call, no nothing...just a no show. Call their office. The next available appointment was for late September!!! I ask them to review my order to see how much business they were losing--and they didn't even say sorry. So I called my cable company -- and they came the next day to install the full package so I could watch football that Saturday.

yeah, so my experience is 100% the same as 1gtfan.

I told them the same thing, that I would be a $150 per month paying customer getting their full Pkg. They basically told me they didn't care. My wife and I got so mad at them that the little ole minumum wage jerk on the other end of the phone blackballed us (I think he flagged our name/acct.) and told us it would be that way for several years...When we made several attempts on phone calls to try and get another rep. on the phone, they all told us our acct. was flagged some how and wouldn't even talk to us...Totally ridiculous....I want all GT fans to beware of Direct Tv...

Just to be fair, I know someone who has the exact same experience in dealing with Dish Network.

As others have said, you are dealing with contractors, not DirecTV (or Dish Network).

The best thing you could do is to use your bad experience to your advantage, to get extra stuff for free, or get a discount on your service. But, you have to call and be nice to people to do that! ;)

I have had both Dish and DTV, and I'm with DTV now. Either is better than cable, and if you want the most sports flexibility, you should go with DirecTV, no question.

If you go and read some of the forums, such as www.dbstalk.com, you can get yourself educated quickly. Also, you can find the right numbers to call when you don't get the service you expect from your installers.

You probably want to check your DirectTV contract again. You most likely don't own the equipment, even if you paid $200+ at a BestBuy for the receiver. It is still a lease.

Not to say you can't own it, but you can also own DN equipment.

A GT alum actually did my install at my house. As far as channels I think they are both about the same. Sports package is pretty cheap w/ DT.

I'm a GT alum who designs Dish Network boxes.

Actually in Atlanta, you are much more likely to get an actual Dish Network employee than a contractor do your install.

I'll disclaim this by stating I'm an Echostar engineer, but both services are about the same (unless you must have NFL Sunday Ticket or MLB EI). Go with whomever gives you the best price.
