Who cares that LSU has 3 weeks to prepare? PJ has 3 weeks to prep something new

I think everyone is losing sight of this.

I look forward to a slew of new plays during the bowl game. ;)

I expect PJ to install a little bit of his run and shoot passing game in order to counter LSU putting eight in the box. The Tigers seem to have problems with anything spread related, and a few new passing plays to go along with the flexbone could keep them off balance.

To be honest with you, I don't care if LSU has six months to prepare for this offense. If the Jackets execute, they'll put up the yards. Here's what I mean. When PJ was at GSU, B-back Adrian Peterson had rushed 100+ yards for 48 consecutive games, including playoff games. Appalachian State decided that they would put a stop to that streak, so they loaded the line of scrimmage and sold out on stopping Peterson. I'm sure you all know what happened. GSU's QB and A-backs had great games and GSU routed App St in their stadium. To their credit they held Peterson to around 90 yards, but they lost the game.

LSU will be faced with the same problem, just as UGA was a couple of weeks ago. When this thing is clicking, teams can stop one or two phases of it, but not all three. PJ is such an "on the fly" genius when it comes to exposing weaknesses in opposing defenses, that no matter what LSU tries to do, the Jackets will have a counter for it.

Everyone should be healthy, and that will really help. It won't hurt to get Nesbitt and Shaw a few thousand more reps in practice leading up to the game, and they can spend a bit of time on the passing game. This offense is all about reps the the QBs. The more they get, the quicker it runs.

One of the main things is that this group of young GT men have discovered that winning is fun and possible. As we learned under Chan that it was ok to win 5 or 6 games, hell this group had the world aganist them this season and they proved they could win and win the big games. Beating UM and Nadlicker U was the begining of the climb that we will enjoy. PJ is no fool and will work to have the team ready and will have a new play or 2 ready. Hell tackle catching a ball, who would have thought that up? PJ desire is to win game and keep the other coaches thinking what he has planned. PJ has winning planned.

The more repetitions an option offense gets, the better it gets. Historically, option teams finish strong, and win more in the second half of the season.

PJ has a higher winning percentage in the second half of the season.

With the offense being new, and a new defensive scheme that's complicated, I think three weeks to continue to improve and get reps on both sides of the ball behooves us. We do what we do. We do what we do. We know it, and LSU knows it. It's just whether we can get out there and execute it.

I agree that we'll likely some improvement in the passing game. Pass blocking has been the main weakness.

Actually I've been saying the same things on the LSU board. It's funny, the fanbase at LSU is split 50/50. Half think GT is going to wipe the floor with them, and the other half thinks "the 3O can't work in modern college football, all you have to do is stop the run and you stop their offense" ... that's like saying ... stop the pass to stop TT ... it's asenine.

But, every fanbase has their own idiots.

I'm actually predicting for CPJ to run mostly in the first series. Then when LSU thinks they have it figured out, hit a lot of play-action in the second and third series for huge plays downfield.

Also one thing I've noticed is that a lot of GT fans think they will roll over LSU, now while that is a definite probability, don't sleep on the Tigers.

I'm a GT alum, but grew up an LSU fan, so this season I've seen a lot of games on both sides this year. LSU tends to play very well in its bowl games in recent years. Its coaching staff usually has them prepared. However, LSU is currently facing a huge debacle at DC. LSU promoted within and these guys just aren't getting it done and LSU is often a confused and undisciplined D, which indicates GT will shred them for 400+ rushing yards. But if LSU's DCs get their heads out of their collective asses, it may very well be a great game (although I still have the jackets winning)

I would love to see GT have 50 points and over 400 yards.

"but the spread will not work in big time college ball"

Ask the head Nadlicker about yardage by the spread.

I'm a GT alum, but grew up an LSU fan,

I'm sorry...:ugh:

So who do you support? If you are typical LSU fan, you are probably a GT fan this year because LSU is underperforming. The reason I ask is because it is hard to tell from this post saying things like "if LSU's DCs get their heads out of their collectives asses it will be a great game." So you want LSU to do well?

If you were a GT fan, you would think that a great game would be us shutting out LSU and hanging 30+ on their ass. Considering you profile says you joined yesterday, I am assuming you are either 1) An LSU fan trying to disguise himself as a GT fan or 2) A GT alum who abandoned GT because LSU was doing decent over the past few years and now you want to come back to being a fan of GT because we are doing well now and you are typical fair-weathered Loser State University fan.

I am very concerned about this game, and it should be a great test for us. LSU has GREAT talent, leftover from a NC team and highly ranked recruiting classes from the last few years. To compare them to Appalachian State does not do them justice. Plus they have a top calibre coach who has won the NC and 3 weeks to prepare. This game will tell us an awful lot of where we are and what our future direction should be to compete on the highest level in Div 1. I expect a real dog fight (excuse the wording).

Well if you're asking who I'm cheering for in this game it's GT. I'm gonna wear my #21 jersey but still don my LSU cap.
Also in the long run, a GT blowout of LSU is in the best interest of both teams. A huge GT win over LSU will give us a lot of confidence going into next year and a high pre-season ranking for next year, so we can make a title run in 2 years.
LSU's main problem is their D ... yes i know the O has been awful, but that's due to Perilloux being and idiot and getting himself thrown off the team (and after injuries) LSU is using Redshirt and True Freshman at QB. If GT can hang 400+ rushing yards on them, LSU will be forced to fire their DCs, and they definitely will have to do that if they plan to make a title run in the next few years. LSU's D is drastically underperforming based on their talent, and scheme and coaching is to blame.

Actually I am a GT alum and got my BS in Aerospace in May '06 and MS in Aerospace in Dec '07. I decided I didn't want to do that so I'm taking classes at LSU to apply to med school (b/c GT is very expensive out of state). Don't question my fanhood. In the six football seasons I spent at GT the only home game I missed was the one we played Duke over fall break.
And the reason I am just joining this site is that I heard about it from some of the GT fans who have recently joined tigerdroppings.com. I did dabble on meetthemachine.com but for the most part these message boards don't have enough traffic so I don't spend as much time on it. But in any case I don't have anything to prove myself to you.

And as for a great game, since both the teams I support are playing I want both sides to do well as long as GT can head home with a W. A win for the Jackets is a significantly bigger deal for GT than a loss would be for LSU.

What you're gonna tell me you've never had conflicting interests in sports?

And if you did bother to get your head out of your ass and actually read what I've posted on here and tigerdroppings.com, you will see the numerous times that I have defended GT from the mass of uninformed LSU fans and that I support GT.

Were you born and raised in NOLA? If so, what high school did you go to? I went to Brother Martin.

I am a big time GT fan. I have had plenty of colleges I have rooted for throughout my life, but after attending GT, it's GT all the way for me. Different strokes for different folks.

Also, you can't deny that you seemed extremely suspicious posting on here talking about if LSU's defense does better it will be a great game and that you just joined yesterday. I don't have the time to search for you on tigerdroppings or even read tiggerdroppings so that's why I didn't see you on there.

I'm just defending my turf from any cajun pussy cats that are roaming on stingtalk.

Paul Johnson has stated in call-in shows before that he doesn't really see a difference in his offense's effectiveness between teams that only prepare a week and teams that prepare a month.

Basically, whatever they practice has an adjustment he can make to get around it. He's been "practicing" the offense for 20+ years, so he's seen every possible defense vs it, and knows what to adjust to when a team shows a certain alignment or set of assignment responsibilities.

More run-and-shoot would be cool, but I'm not so sure we need it vs LSU. In any case, I expect us to be very prepared, and to score a lot. As usual, the game will come down to turnovers, just like the last Peach Bowl. If we managed only 3 turnovers instead of 6 vs LSU in 2000, we win handily. (final score was 4 TDs to 2, with us driving late for a third) I think the break point this year will probably be something like 3 turnovers. Less than 3 and we win.

fwiw, both my parents went to Tulane and my mom is from NOLA (Fortier, none of this private school bs) so it's easy for me to hate LSU.

There's a picture up in the basement at home of Tulane's 14-0 win in 1973, after going 0-23-2 in the previous 25 years.

I did grow up in New Orleans. I went to Brother Martin for 8th-10th grades then left to go to LSMSA in Natchitoches. What year were you? I would have been in Brother Martin's '02 class if I hadn't left for LSMSA.

Well I grew up an LSU fan, and yeah going to GT is a huge deal for me, another reason I'm rooting for GT over LSU even though I've been an LSU fan longer than a GT fan (I only followed GT once i started going there)

I actually get most of my GT news from the official GT blog and the GTsports blog ( http://www.playatgatech.com/blog/blog.php and http://gtsports.blogspot.com/ )

Chirag what's up man. If I knew it was you I wouldn't have been all defensive.

My dad went to Tulane (a private school, so I don't know what is you deal with that) and I was born in raised in NOLA, so I have a deep rooted hate for LSU. Don't dis the private Catholic schools in NOLA. It's the norm in New Orleans to go to the private Catholic schools. If you lived there, you would know. It isn't 10's of thousands a year like it is up here, it was about 4k a year when I went. from 99-02. You can get killed at some of the public schools nowadays in NOLA. It's pretty bad, trust me.
