I say D. Mcnabb

has same build...scrambles like him...and most importantly, can THROW the ball

I think it was mrtouchdown on The Hive who said a blend of Jones & Hamilton, which I think is right on. THWG

We have not seen him run enough in the two games to draw a good comparison at this time.

Those who attended the Fall practices probably have a better handle on this, but it seems he is faster than Joe Hamilton, but maybe not quite as elusive as Joe.

Joe was real fluid when escaping the rushers and very dangerous in an open field.

It appears Ball has the ability to turn on the speed and get away from an oncoming tackler.

This is going to seem out of left field but stay with me.

Phillip Rivers.

Not from a style or physical standpoint, but from a standpoint of how he carries himself on the field.

He has two of the same qualities that I think Rivers has that makes him such a good QB at NCSU.

1. Confidence. Not only confidence, but confidence that leads to calmness on the field.

2. Decision making. You can improve decision making with practice and experience, but some individuals are just better at making decisions in pressure situations. Ball so far in two games, looks as though he has a high aptitude for making good decisions under pressure.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I thought the same thing. I've been calling him Mini McNabb since that 30 yard run against BYU. They both have the same upright running style.

I agree with Ahso...

One thing he has over Little Joe is that he is 2 inches taller, and has a stronger arm..Have you noticed how big his arms are??? His dad no doubt figures in there as he is a strength and conditioning coach for pro athletes....

McNabb is listed as 6'2", 240 lbs & Ball is 6'0", 180 lbs.

McNabb Ball

That's a big difference.

When Donovan runs it's like stopping a lineman (or Greg Jones). The DB's just yell, "Olay!" and move aside.

So far he reminds me of a Phil Petty with wheels, (very underrated - from South Carolina), and hopefully he will remind me of Charlie Ward in the future.

Phil Petty because he doesn't make mistakes and doesn't have big numbers, but somehow keeps helping those around him pick up their own game.

Charlie Ward because he clearly has untapped potential and skills.

The most significant thing he's done in my opinion is have hardly any stat in the INT column.

I know - he runs better than Phil. He just has not had great stats so far. (Except the "W" stat) And he will - and I'll change my assessment. His attitude has infused the team - on that level he is a Tony Hollings - but in simple numbers, his stats don't blow you away - yet.

"Yet" is a significant part of this post.

A combo of Drew Brees, and Joe H.
His qb draw is a beautifully run play. I just hope he can continue it successfully and eventually run a very polished option. His throwing is a sight to behold.

There is another coincidence (similarity) to Number 14.

In Joe's freshman year (OK, OK, R-Fr) we played a high ranked (IIRC #6) UVA team. No one gave us much of a chance. When we came out in the gold jerseys I knew we were doomed. We upset UVA that day 13-6 with a great defensive performance. Joe and the offense did just enough to win the game.

At least that's how I remember it.

Jeff Blake when he was at East Carolina.

Jeff had tremendous deep touch and a good arm if not the biggest cannon in the world. He also could scramble when necessary but was looking for the open man downfield first.

Reggie will get more and more consistent with his passes as he learns but the touch he has shown already is fantastic.

I would agree completely with the poster who said that for his poise he does remind you of Phillip Rivers.
