Who will oppose GT in the Music City?

The Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tenn had it's picture just right last week with the idea of matching Ga Tech against the loser of the Alabama @ Auburn struggle. Both teams were expected to be 7-4 going in and, ergo, the loser would be 7-5. A 7-5 Aub or Ala bunch versus a 7-5 Tech team should draw a sellout from fans of either old, long time rivalry.
A grotesque thing happened for the Music City when the Red Elephants lost a shocker to the University of Louisiana-Monroe. Huh? That leaves the Country Music Capital in a quandry if the Tigers lap up the Crimson Tide, as expected. The Ebb Tide would then be only 6-6 & the Nashville Bowl must take 7-5 before 6-6.

Therefore, it's looking like the Yellow Jackets will be butting heads with either Arkansas(probably 7-5) or Mississippi St(probably 7-5). Kentucky(probably 7-5) went to Nashville last year & won't go this yr. The Rambling Wreck hasn't fought with the Razorbacks since the early 60s, losing a Gator Bowl. A better choice would be to start the Bulldogs-Jackets series a game, & season, earlier than expected. I strongly pull for a pit fight with Dogs, back-to-back.

South Carolina is another option I've heard thrown around.

It was my understanding that the main reason GT would be selected over FSU is that Bama & the Noles had already played this year. If FSU is not selected by the Music City Bowl, and Wake gets the Charlotte invite, that would force FSU to go out to SF for the second year in a row, which the ACC would not allow.

That means a Bama loss would open the door for FSU to be selected over us for Music City, which would likely send us out West unless we beat UGA. I'm just trying to reason this out, and I'm sure thwg can clear this up when he gets a chance....

You're right tho it looks like Miss St., Arkansas, or Kentucky would be the best SEC candidates depending on next week...

Just thinking out loud

Virginia may agree to be bypassed by the Champs Sports Bowl to go to the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Charlotte is much, much closer for Virginia fans than Orlando & the Cavaliers have done well, both in attendance & playing, in the 1st two Bowls in the Queen City.
That opens up the Champs Bowl for Florida St, which is a natural, logistical fit. The Orlando Bowl should do well with the Seminoles in the game there. The fly in the ointment would be if UVa wants to go to Orlando & refuses the Charlotte trip. In this scenario The Meineke then takes FSU.
Either way, the Music City reels in Georgia Tech & either way, Wake Forest gets a tough pill to swallow with a long flight to San Francisco.

P.S. The Gamecocks must beat Clemson to get in the MC Bowl scenario. Even then, Nashville is much, much closer to Miss St &/or Ark.

You may be right about UVA electing to bypass the Champs.... don't know how the payouts work, and I'm not sure if they'd want to go there for the third time since 2002. If they do go to Orlando, I think there's a pretty decent chance Wake gets an invite to the Car Care bowl in Charlotte... supposedly they favor teams from NC and a Wake team might be more attractive at 8-4 vs. GT at 7-5 with no HC or FSU coming off the Florida loss. If they're willing to go outside of NC, they'll look to FSU before us, and we'll battle Wake for the Music City invite.

I know Wake has a small fan base, one of the few that is smaller than ours, but with an 8-4 record and 5-3 in the ACC I'm not so sure we get the invite over them. I would love some confirmation that we would, but more importantly I would love to beat UGA and make us a more attractive selection because then fans will definitely come out....

The Music City selects from the same pool as the Independence and Liberty for the SEC, don't they? I don't know why they'd have to take a 7-5 team over a 6-6, necessarily.

Mike Knobler at ajc.com predicts that FSU will go to the Music City and we will go to the Emerald.

Ncaa Rules

The next Bowl selecting must take a 7-5 conference team, if availiable, to fulfill contract obligations before taking any 6-6 conference team to fulfill the contract promise. It is what the NCAA has dictated when the NCAA allowed a 12 gm season starting in 2006. In other words, per NCAA, the Bowls are forced to take teams with winning records before taking break-even slates.

If we beat the mutts and FSU loses to the Gators like they should, then we won't have to worry about any of this.

TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!

I realize that, I just wasn't sure of the SEC pecking order. I looked it up and, indeed, the Independence is after the Music City and Liberty. So Bama will be relegated to the Independence for the 2nd straight year if they can't beat Auburn.

unfortunately I feel like Knobler is right. With the FSU win and Bama loss, it looks like Emerald City for us, unless we take out the mutts...

What happens if we beat ugay and fsu beats the gators?

I would hope an 8-4 team with a top-10 win would not have to go to the emerald bowl.

I doubt that the Emerald Bowl would even take us after that showing 2 yrs ago. We didn't travel well to that one did we?

I would guess that no ACC team ever travels well there. You think a lot of FSU fans showed up there last year? They bank on having a Pac-10 team show up, and they better hope one makes it this year!
