Who\'s heard this conspiracy theory?

I've heard this rumor now twice, from two people who don't know each other. I find it silly, but consider it good FOC fodder.
.
The conspiracy starts with a Tech QB who is a recipient of a major contributor's football scholarship. The tellers of this story feel that undue pressure to play this QB is coming from this powerful alumnus, and that unwritten deals for future donations hinge on this QB being given every opportunity to succeed. This alumnus is said to be very supportive of our coach, and played an important role in his hire.
.
If this rumor is true, I guess that there is nothing really wrong with it. If I was throwing big money around, I'd want a say as well. If it is untrue, it proves how human nature reacts to bad times, with this being just one of many theories that will soon be out there.

Re: Who\'s heard this conspiracy theory?

The first big clue that something strange was going on was when Andy Hall abruptly quit during the middle of spring practice. No way he quits if he thought he was getting a fair shake from the new staff. Hall would almost certainly have been the starter under the old staff. And he certainly looked better when he played than the play out of that position this year. He was not afraid to battle for the job every year he was here....why then quit suddenly when we get a new staff????
Something is obviously rotten in Denmark...err...uh...North Avenue.

Sorry guys, I just don't beelieve it. While I wouldn't put it past Braine to pull some crap like that, given Gailey's convictions, his sincere faith, and sense of honor as exibited by his not leaving Miami before his contract was up leads me to believe that he would resign before being forced into an Auburn type situation. We aint' the SEC.

Re: Who\'s heard this conspiracy theory?

Again, I don't believe it either, just find the rumor humorous and fun fodder.

Beeware....Hall most certainly would have been a starter under the old staff???

I will not even bother getting into details here...this one is way off base.

The old staff used to say that every new kid was special. Remember when Crenshaw was going to be the next great QB...and then Logan was going to be the next great QB....then so on and so on.

It got to a point that whenever I heard someone was going to be special I became concerned. How about Hughley...and the list goes on.

Re: Who\'s heard this conspiracy theory?

I will not believe that for one minute, because of Gailey's convictions. It has been proven to Tech by his refusal to quit the program at Miami before coming to Tech. Many other schools walked away from him because of his stand of integrity to his job.

He would not have come to Tech from Miami if Tech had tried to force him to come early. He has made it clear, that he places truth and honor in God's ways above himself.

Since I feel the same way, and had rather sacrifice all of this life's amenities for truth, I would tell Tech to go jump if they placed that kind of restriction (play a given player) on me as a coach. I feel Gailey would do the same.

I would venture to say there are people out there that are vicious in their approach to any Tech coach except Mac, O'Brien, Roof, O'Leary, etal, and would say anything to get something like this started.

I will not believe it until Gailey states it is true.

Re: Who\'s heard this conspiracy theory?

I find it humorous that the less than average play by a GT team is forcing everyone to come up with X Files reasons. Maybe we have run the gamut of obvious reasons, team not motivated, talent less than advertised, mediocre coaching staff, etc., etc.

If rumor is true, we have coaches who are willing to lose in order to appease a particular alum? Ridiculous. Ahso is right. If nothing else, CG has integrity coming out the wazoo!!
