Why do we seem to be declining on offense

The blocking issues we saw in the last 2 games have not been this bad all year. There were several games that we completely controlled the line of scrimmage and ran the ball down their throats...ie...MSU and Duke.

So...why in the last 2 weeks does it seem that our offensive rhythem is getting worse...not better. Specifically...why is our blocking getting worse???

I really expected us to start out slow...and show improvement throughout the season...we started pretty strong and seem to be sputtering now with some tough games in front of us.

Kudos to the defense. They've won the last 2 for us.

CPJ can only call the winning plays so many times.

Our players need to stop tripping over their own cockadoodledooos and only then, will awesomeness come.

As much as everone likes to say the QBs are interchangeble, they are not. The QB is the driver of the entire offense. You can't transition like we have and not have some hiccups. I was expecting a fumbled snap and that did not happen.

The turn overs really hurt us yesterday. We had two good looking drives stopped.

Clemson had a very BIG and fast line (especially big at nose guard).

The whiff that DThomas made at the TD pass was a rare mistake that won't happen again. Josh was fired up and was overthrowing all his passes until mid-third quarter.

I am not too worried. We improved since last week. Hanging 21 (almost 28) on Clemson at Clemson is much better than scoring 10 on Gardner Webb at The Flats. In addition, this past game was the first game for Nesbitt since Mississippi State. Our inconsistent offense is moreso tied to our inconsistent starting lineup than anything else.

I don't think it's that our offense is declining, I think it's that we played against a pretty good defense who had a strategy in place to try to stop our offense. You could say the same thing about our game against BC and VT because our offense sputtered a bit in both of those games.

Every week is different when you are inconsistent. This roller coaster isn't over yet, and CPJ would agree.

The offense will move like a well oiled machine when we get Offensive Linemen that are quicker and don't have as much weight on them. When CPJ gets his recruits, juggernaut in the ACC. Go Jackets!

Maybe the offense is getting more complicated by adding elements to the TO. Maybe we're seeing some wear and tear on the front line as we move through the season. Maybe other teams are watching film and finding weaknesses and making adjustments. Maybe a combination of all of the above. I think we are so far ahead of where we expected at the start of the season that we might be expecting too much. The BC and VT games were ugly, but back then we were just happy to play well. Now, we are starting to expect a top 10 team to take the field every week. I'll take an ugly win over a moral victory any day!

O only hung 14 but perhaps we should give partial credit for the missed FGs.

I'll put it this way. The CU team this year is very similar to the CU team last year.

Last year we won because of one thing. FOUR missed field goals.

This year we won because of US not because of THEM

That's a good thing

PO has it right. Until we get the OL recruits to run this offense, will it really gel. Nothing against our line, but they were recruited for a pro style offense, not a trapping quick OL like we need. We are slow and a quick DL will give us problems.

I think that the offense just needs to get back into the "Nesbitt" effect to start clicking again. At home at UVA, I think we pick up were we left off with Nesbitt since MSU.

I think their six turnovers probably helped out just as much as the four missed field goals last year, especially since one of them was returned to the endzone.

I agree, but two of the TOs were at the end in desperation.

The intercepted long ball and the purposeful fumble/lateral.

So that leaves four legit TOs. The interceptions truly seemed forced by our great defense though. I loved the tipped ball, followed by throwing the WR on the ground and stealing the catch.

Got a video?

I wish I did. I was at the top corner, third row from the top, of the upper deck. It was still awesome ;)

I have seen no tape from the game except the quick ESPN highlights.

The refs were bad on both sides. They had one long gain (would have been 4th down) because of a BLATANT holding that somehow the refs missed. It was so blatant I saw it when they were the size of ants (and everyone around stood up complaining too about it).

Also...Scott Blair...nice flop :p
