if YOUR CURRENT coach leaves for a job that pays 5x's his current salary to perform a job that is a tougher job that he has done successfully in the past DO YOU THINK YOUR PROGRAM IS GOING TO BE BETTER OFF?

Do you think Miami and Pittsburgh are hard up for people to interview?

And if he gets hired do you think Miami or Pittsburgh are hard up for someone to pay 4mil+ year?

Anybody who is confident that CG leaving is GOOD for GT is an IDIOT, IMO.

It may work out and we may win beat Ugag for the next 7 years and win the next 4 ACCCG but I would not wager the bank on it.

Typical Lawyer, why anyone that graduated from Tech would promote the fact that they are a lawyer is beyond me. Being a lawyer in this country is a complete contradiction from the education you receive at GT:

None of the above is correct Latin. Carborundum is not a Latin word but the brand name of a commercial abrasive originating in the 19th century (see silicon carbide article). The ending -undum suggests a Latin gerund form, but the word is actually a portmanteau of "carbon" (from Latin), and "corundum" (from Tamil kurundam).
Illegitimi suggests illegitimate to the English speaker, or bastardo likewise, but the Latin for bastard is actually nothus (from the Greek word notho (νόθο) meaning not-pure, and used when referring to a bastard whose father is known) or spurius (for a bastard whose father is unknown). The forms with nil may be formed partly on the pattern of the genuine Latin phrase Nil desperandum.

WOW !!!!! I'm already a better man for reading this one. Hold on just a sec. There's smoke getting blown up my pants leg here from that carborundum/desperandum reply. LOL :)

8-8 sounds pretty mediocre. Having a mediocre record, but getting to the playoffs as a wildcard can be construed as success. At least you are in the big tournament.

Similarly, I believe he thought getting to any bowl game while at Tech was more than acceptable. Not.

that is an impressive use of google but if you would have included the first line of this link that you cut and pasted you may have understood what I meant by the phrase.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegitimi_non_carborundum

But law_bee, had the poster included all the information from the link then it would not have helped prove the point the poster was trying to make. [/sarcasm]

This is a perfect example of how a quote from an interview can be used just by leaving off a few key words at the beginning or the end of a sentence or even just using a sentence fragment in order to make the quote sound however a writer/reporter wants it to.

Sorry for the blatant hijack ;)

It must be painful, LawBee, to live in a world of many idiots when you're such a genius.

I'll say this

I'm a Dolphin fan as well. If you gave me the choice between Gailey as my HC for the Dolphins or Tech, I'd easily choose the Dolphins. That is with the understanding that I will always put Tech ahead of the Dolphins in my priorities. I simply believe that Gailey is a better NFL coach than a college coach. The jobs aren't the same at all and require a different mindset and strategy. He has struggled to learn the college game and I still feel that he is more comfortable in the pro environment. I aslo happen to believe that he realizes that both the Steelers and Dolphins (more so the Steelers) are setup for his type of coaching.

The funny part of this whole thing is how much it reminds me of politics. There are extremists on both sides who will take the same thing and spin it to their liking and will never fully acknowledge certain facts that don't backup their stances. And that doesn't only apply to the "Buzzoff" folks. Both sides also use the standard MO of political groups in lumping a person into a generic group (FOC's, Buzzoffer, Yellow-tinted glasses, don't KNOW football, etc.) so that it makes it easier to attack them. Or perhaps using the patented strategy of name calling like using the word IDIOTS.

It would seem that Gailey is gone based on his actions lately and frankly I won't loose any sleep over it. However, if he does come back I hope that he realizes that changes on the offensive coaching staff are needed and that we have a great season next year.

Well said GTPilot. Oh and I certainly did omit part of your post because it wasn't germaine to my point ;)

On the other hand I don't think I diluted your message or misrepresented it, did I?

Wow, first post as an attack on another poster, lawyers in general and inaccurate to boot. Nice start!

I believe CG is a better College HC than Pro. He came in with a program on the decline after Tech lost Friedg, 2 good QBs, and others. We kept mostly winning even while the conference improved greatly.
The progress has been slow but it has been positive. The offense this year was an improvement over the last several years' except for 2 or 3 series at the end of the season against good defenses. Next year is a big unknown without CJ, but the QB positin looks good (with good comp) and the Oline and RB are solid. The D should be as good.
All of this promise with small and low ranked recruiting classes. This equates to coaching up.

And now the recruiting looks to be improving. The progress may have been a little slow, but it is clearly positive.
I hope CG stays at Tech and continues this trend.

Just beating UGA or winning the ACC title ONCE in 5 years would be an improvement over the current HC.

When Gailey got hired, he knew that his job was to beat UGA and win an ACC title. After 5 years:

0-5 vs UGA including the worst loss ever in the series
No ACC titles
No Top 25 finishes

It's not like he was expected to beat UGA every game or even split the series. If he had just won twice, people would be satisfied. Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and South Carolina all managed to beat UGA once in the past 5 years with far less talent than we have had.

It's not like he actually had to win an ACC title. If we had finished in the Top 25 twice in the past 5 years like, I think people would be happy. BC, UVA, and Clemson have all been ranked in the Top 25 twice or more over the past 5 years.

If Gailey performs similarly in the NFL, he will be fired. He will be working longer hours and dealing with a much harsher media and fan base. The only schools that are easier on their HC don't care about football. If he can't handle the big, bad, nasty GT fan base then maybe he should go back to being an OC in the NFL.

Isn't Tech in the perfect postion with CG now?

If he continues to improve next year then absolutely no one should complain. And if the recruiting continues, Tech will be at the top of the ACC for a long time.

If we lose, then we address it next year.

Why would you go against a positive trend when it is approaching a high level.

Again, Im still trying to figure out your point. Pitts and Miami called him. Shouldnt he listen? Its as simple as that for a man like Gailey whos been there before and obviously likes the NFL.

my point is that IMO there are too many people who are confident CG leaving is good for GT.

This is irrational based on the evidence. Of course it is possible GT's program may improve w/ another coach, but there has to be concern for the rational GT fan.

If we have to hire another coach there are numerous variables to actually getting a quality coach. Then we also have to have that coach perform at a high level with all of GT's special conditions.

CG had a learning curve and a new coach may have the same if not longer learning curve.

Think about all the GT coaches that have loved GT but have not been successful at GT.

I have said all along I only want a coach that wants to coach at GT. If CG leaves then I will support and hope we get the best GT coach ever. I hope our next coach we are naming the stadium after him in 10 years whether that is near or far into the future.

"Typical Lawyer, why anyone that graduated from Tech"

I don't think Lawbee went to GT.

law school at uga and undergrad at Ga Southern. It has been posted on here multilple times.

Hey Beeski, you're an 'original fiver' from way back, no?

If so, good to see you wander over here once in a while.

I think that this board has a lot of potential, except for the buzzoffers with no sense of reality, huge amounts of pent up frustration and an endless supply of complaints. Other than the one track anti gailey posters this place is a little like the original hive without the excellent inside jokes, lame humor, interesting distractions, and irrelevant comedy.
