Why is Tyler Evans returning punts?

Because he has more experience returning punts than playmaker who has not returned a punt. Don't you know Gailey yet?

Wow, ANOTHER thread about punt returners. With everything else we have to worry about, I'm mainly happy to have someone back there who can catch them.

GOSH I SURE AM GLAD WE HAD A FAST FRESHMAN PLAYMAKER RETURNING PUNTS VERSUS VIRGINIA.

beej67,
pretty sick of this topic

Leave it to the Bunger to provide the correct answer.

The reason is that Gailey is too afraid of a playmaker getting injured in a potentially violent play.

It's all about playing it safe. Playing not to lose.

You all saw the song lyrics. You should know. Words of wisdom occasionally trickle over from Buzzoff over here.

Of all the buildings and people at Tech, why Bunger Henry? You could have at least picked Van Leer or Woodruff.

Tyler is averaging the same yards per return as CJ Spiller. He is doing a good job, only 4 punts have been returned for a touchdown this year in the ACC.

Corey Earls or DJ Donley. I know Earls is still hurt though.

Correy might get a shot next year, DJ wont return punts he is 6'4". He did in high school but he wont be at the college level. Tarrant, Roddy Jones or Peeples could get a shot next year. Maybe even AJ Jenkins.

What about some of our DBs?

I'm making that post my sig.

CJ Spiller is atleast a threat, comments like that makes Tech fans seem......knowledgeable of the game?? Did u really just say that?

FOR GOD SAKES PEOPLE.

The most important part of fielding a punt is NOT FUMBLING. We already tried to put the 'fast playmaker' back to field punts, and it LOST US THE VIRGINIA GAME.

For those short of memory, lets take a walk down memory lane to the return man widely regarded as Tech's best in modern times, Kelly Rhino. Playmaker? NO. Fielded punts without fumbling? YES.

Except for one game, in which he did fumble two punts, and we got BUTCHERED BY LSU IN THE PEACH BOWL. Oh yeah, and what was the primary reason we got blown out 50 something to essentially nothing by UGA that year?

Anyone?

Anyone?

FUMBLED KICKOFF RETURNS.

Are you all daft? Dumb? Brainless? Or do you just DENY HISTORY in an attempt to point the 'conservative' finger at Gailey? Bunger I'm looking at you. You DO watch Tech football on occasion, right?

Wasn't that another white walk-on? I would hardly call whoever that guy was a playmaker.

Its not like fumbled punts plague college football, any scholarship player at this level (like the other Evans, earls, etc) should be able to field punts, period. Evans does not have the speed to get around the corner.

We just may be the only team in Div1 w/ snow flake returning punts.

Did any of you ever consider that Tyler Evans might be our best playmaker as a punt returner?

Why not a playmaker?

1. B/c Gailey has a man crush on Vince Papale
2. B/c Gailey will always value ball possession and 5 yards more than ball possession an occasional -5 yards in turn for the 25 yard return
3. B/c its the oddest thing in the world to not have a legit D1 Scholarship athlete with speed returning punts....and since it is....that fits gailey's MO

Oh and before everyone jumps on. Who would I choose

G Smith. By far the slipperiest fastest guy who has a nice thin frame to do this. Yes its added on top of WR...but he would be awesome in this role
Second choice would be J. Evans
Third, b/c we never use him much, R Grant
Fourth, D Reese.

apparently none of these boys can field punts or they would get a shot! Just a thought.

Andrew Smith is not a playmaker. He is a white walk-on.

Does anyone remember the Miami game in 05, Pat Clark muffed like 3 punts then. :o
