Why exactly, did we turn him down?

And don't say money because we already know we'll have to fork over some major dough if we hire Paul Johnson.

Just curious....

He wouldn't leave Maryland for GT. He played at Maryland.

I think Dems said he did in fact contact us, right at the beginning of the process.

I don't think he's that loyal to MD just b/c he played there. I think he and his wife loved Atlanta so it wouldn't surprise me if he threw his name in the hat. They've got the place at Oconee, who wouldn't want to be closer to that?

That being said, I don't think he's the candidate DRad had in mind. But with the current madness, who knows???

The impending heart attack does not bode well for a coach trying to build a long lasting program.

I also heard that he contacted us and I'm sure there was a reason for not interviewing him...A reason 99.9% of us will never know.

Someone posted that Ralph has a BIG buyout. Guess we cannot buy out Fridge too, even if we wanted him.

Easy question. Compared to Chan, Ralph has won how many ACC games over the past six seasons?

At the beginning of the 2004 season his contract was reworked to include a $1 million buyout. Maryland followed with two 5-6 seasons in 04 and 05 and then a 9-4, so I can't imagine it was reworked since then.

That number was gleamed off a couple of sites after some googling so take it with a grain of salt. Having said that though, for a coach that won 10 games a year in his first 3 years, that seems awfully low. Richt's buyout is the balance of his contract ($2 mil a season through 2013).

If it is right though, considering we just gave FCCG $4 mil to walk away, another $1 to get Fridge (assuming the powers that be actually wanted him) seems like a small price to pay. I'm guessing it was some other reason.

I think that Fridge is a great coach, but I believe that he is now in his 60's so he does not have many years left. In your 60's and morbidly obese is not a good combination for longevity.

PJ is very similar to RF without the experience at GT, but much younger.
