Why UVA is a VERY dangerous game

This team is a whole lot better than they show on paper. First off, UVA prepared to have Sewell back as their QB going into the fall. You will all remember he gave us fits in Charlottesville. Sewell is an option QB and he ran a completely different offense than the one you see now. He ended up failing out of school.

In comes Lalich who as I can understand is a mobile passer. He was a young guy and the staff had to throw him to the wolves pretty quickly and had to totally revamp their entire offense in the process. Lalich gets busted for underage drinking and they end up benching him.

In comes Verica who is a very slow QB with an extremely accurate arm. The offense that fits him the best is probably something ala Texas Tech but again, the UVA coaches have to adjust their entire offense for the abilities of their QB for the third time in a very early season. I somewhat ignore the results of UVA's schedule early on because of the amount of adjustments they had to make during the course of fall and early season. Groh might be a dufus, but give him credit, unlike Gailey he at least designs an offense around his QB.

UVA has a huge oline and probably the best we will face all season. I would imagine them a LOT like the BC team we played, but with a better more durable running back. In the BC game, if their RB doesn't go down to injury, we probably end up losing that game. Peerman is averaging 6.0 YPC which is .3 YPC less than Dwyer. He is a really good runningback.

On top of that Verica their QB obviously has found his groove. He's got a 65% completion percentage.

This game is deceptive as hell. On paper UVA looks like a pedestrian squad that hasn't done anything including bad losses to UConn and Duke. I attribute that to growing pains of trying to implement a new system. But look at their last 3 games.

UVA totally dominated Maryland 31-0. This is the same Maryland squad that beat a previously ranked #25 Cal team, and they wiped the floor with Wake Forest and handed them their first shut out loss in 8 some odd years. I realize Maryland is a jekyll and hyde team, but UVA is their big rivalry game. You don't come out flat against your main rival. UVA just crushed them. Peerman had 110 yards on 17 carries, Verica was 25/34 for over 200 yards and 2 tds.

UVA then turns around and soundly beats a East Carolina team that started the season upsetting VT who we lost to and then demolished a then Top 10 WVU squad. East Carolina did have two previous losses to NCST and Houston going into this game, so its tricky to know which East Carolina team did they beat. Peerman runs wild for 16 carries for 173 yards and 2 tds. Verica was 25/32 for over 200 yards.

Last week UVA then plays with UNC the entire game before taking them down late in the 4th quarter and then overtime. UNC was ranked #18 in the country. Very strange considering we are ranked 18th in the country. UNC is no slouch. They've been a solid team all year and have some good talent that Butch Davis has been stock piling. Peerman only had 44 yards on 17 carries, but made those carries count in the 4th and OT. Verica was 24/38 for over 200 yards.

Regardless, UVA has beaten three previously ranked teams this season three games in a row. They seem to be finding their groove now and the results of the last few games show it. This team is peaking right now.

This team reminds me a lot of BC but they have a better RB and a slightly worse defense. They have one of the bigger and better OLine's we play if not the best. Their RB is certainly the best we will have faced all year. And their QB is pretty sound too.

Don't be surprised by a close game.

I want to know what happened that kept UNC from scoring any more than they did on UVA.

From browsing their boards, looks like they blame the coach for calling too many plays up the middle.

Our offense will fumble it, and our defense will get a few turnovers for us too. As usual, in the end, this game will be about how our O-Line does vs the other team's D-Line. We are going to win or lose this game by less than a touchdown. Damned if I know which one it will be, though.

uva blows...and this is why

they beat a maryland team that beat cal....and lost to middle tennessee. and had a scare with Delaware--a Joe Flacco-less Delaware...Id have to contribute a lot of their Cal win to a noon start time--thats a 9am start time for the Cali boys....

their o-line is amazing?? is that why it took them ALL of 4 quarters to put up a big 10 points on unc?

they lost to SO Cal 1 million to 7--a mercy 7 at that..
they beat Richmond 16-0....Go Spiders.

In Two games outside of Charlottesville--they have been outscored: 76-13 against UCONN and DUKE..uconn beat them 45-10, after beating temple 12-9 a week earlier

Should we overlook UVA?? No- We shouldn't overlook anyone. We have seen too many close games to do that. But should we waste times with posts about how good a UVa team is--that clearly isn't??? Nope... Don't think so.

Without TATE UNC's offense is going to struggle... I hope they don't figure it out because if they do--then thats a game that will worry me..

Beating a ranked team only counts if they are ranked when they play you...the only "ranked" team they have beaten is Maryland.

Unless you count the FCS ranked #3 Richmond Spiders

In theory, we should be something like 2-5. In reality, we are 6-1.
In theory, we should have hung on 50 Gardner Webb. In reality, we won by 3.
In theory, we should smoke UVA. In reality, we won't. Why? Our O-Line. Until they stop masturbating on the field and start blocking, we're not going to run away with any games. It wouldn't surprise me if we won out. It would surprise me if we looked dominant while doing that.

I just dont get how our o line did ok against Miss St. But they just suck now. Im also waiting for any a back to have a good game.

I think we click against UVA and it's going to be about like the MSU game. Their defense is not good and Josh Nesbitt is 100%, the rust has worn off. We going to have a field day.

Nobody said this season would be easy. I don't think the players will take this game lightly, especially after GW. If we are going to make it to an east coast bowl or ACC championship game it will take some hard work and a few breaks. That's what makes the games fun. But as Lewis Grizzard once said, "winning never feels as good as losing hurts." I sure would like to stay in the rankings for a change, and that's what scares me the most. Many people still expect us to have the big let down.

MSU was Croomed by their own coach. They were totally miscoached. They lined up on a covered wide receiver (tackle) and ran downfield as if he were an eligible receiver. They were basically playing 10 on 11 all day. The game is a fluke and won't happen again.

BOR, that is a pretty nice analysis. Unlike you, I will not call your analysis of the game crap like you did on my post even though I somewhat disagree with you.

UNC lost to UVA because they turned the ball over 3 times. And if you watched that game you would see that UVA didn't force all of those turnovers. And they only scored 3 points off of those 3 turnovers.

Also, UVA only scored 10 points in regulation (the score is deceiving because 6 came in OT) against the 34th ranked scoring defense in college football allowing 19.3 ppg. We are the 5th ranked, allowing only 11.6 ppg. If you look at home games, we are only allowing 7 ppg.

Verica has definitely found his groove. Is that why he threw 4 interceptions and 45% completions for a stunning 194 yards the last game they played away from home?

It's the same story every week. If we don't turn the ball over, we win. If we turn it over too much, we lose. WE control wether WE win our lose. Not UVA. WE do.

More Reasons: #1 UVA went 82 yds in the last 2:39 in reg vs. a tired and confused prevent Defense.
#2 Their FG kicker Sucks
#3 To much to ask for them to get up emotionally 2 weeks in a row
#4 Just like Duke.. cannot handle big road game
#5 Slow QB could possibly knocked out of the game in first half vs. our D
#6 We will stop the running attack (ck our nat ranking vs. run) and make them try and beat us through the air... thus refer to #5

every team is dangerous because it depends on US! How we play.. We control our destiny now, get used to that with CPJ.

Every game is dangerous. You might remember a certain Gardner-Webb that was 26 yards from beating us or forcing overtime.

Cajun, first, you shouldn't take me so seriously. I don't take myself seriously and I have my tongue firmly planted in my cheek on most posts.

Second, I actually thought your analysis was pretty good, but the thing that irritated me was that you kind of assume we're going to have a cake walk. I don't agree. I think this game is going to be tough for two reasons:

1.) Our interior olineman play stinks.
and
2.) UVA is peaking.

Not to hurt anyone's feelings, but imagining that we are playing the same team this weekend that lost to USC and Duke is denial. Just like believing that the UNC offense that is playing now is the same team without Yates and Tate.

UVA right now should be a very scary game with the exception that we match up OK on paper, and vegas thinks we win by 11.

If vegas thinks we win by 11, we really should win this game. Of course if I had a dollar for every time an 11 pt underdog won I would be retired.
