Throw the blame where you want but the reason is simple. WE CAN'T RECRUIT SHIP FOR PLAYERS. In 2017 we signed ZERO players ranked in top 20 in Georgia(Mutts got 2). Hell Tallahassee Comunity College got one. In 2018 we signed ZERO players ranked in top 20 in Georgia (Mutts got 3). In 2019 we are slated to sign ZERO players in top 20 once again. We can't sell out program to local kids and it doesn't get better on National Stage. His thing is going nowhere. We aren't even rebuilding at this point.

Get better players is what you’re saying. That’s brilliant. I’m sure CJP hasn’t thought of that.

Why would anyone bigcry OP? Dude is dead on.

Division 1 (or whatever the hell they call it now) coaches can usually either recruit or coach. Ours, apparently, can't do either.

I am confused by the difficulty recruiting here. We're in the premier basketball conference. We have a great new place to play. A lot of players are in the area already and would probably like to be watched by their friends and family when they play. What is the problem I wonder.

Either out talent evaluation or our player development, or both, is awful. We have 5 or 6 players on schlorship that cannot play at this level. Gardner Webb had 3 or 4 players we could really use.

I have no answer for this. Saw a special on Coach Pastner and he seemed likable but guess we can't pay enough.

I truthfully think we would be better off recruiting a bunch of 3 star shooters and play like early 90'S Loyola. At least it would be fun to watch. This team is unwatchable.

The in state recruiting is baffling. uGa alum I went to the game with when he first stepped into McCamish said “wow! This is much nicer than Stegeman!”

Yet we can’t get kids to come here in state when we play in the much better league

I envy about 20 mid-major programs that have a quarter of our resources.

And do we deserve to be turning out the lights and blasting a hype video at this point. Cobbled together footage of games with no people and 20 year old clips of Kenny Anderson seem laughable at this point.

Is there any correlation between football and basketball we can use to form a hypothesis?

I wish they would play this game at neutral site like Gwinnett. Maybe call it Peach State Classic with Ga State vs GA Southern at 7 & GT/Mutts after that. Right now we might demand 7 O'clock spot with our play.

What exactly do you want everyone else (beside the players and coaches) to do to help? Nothing? There's a ton of people associated with the program who want to do whatever they can to help. But ultimately only scoring points and winning games is really going to have an effect, I fear.

The only correlation IMHO is that recruiting is always first and foremost about personal connections. This is how coaches build programs – by getting players to like them and want to play for them. The relationship between the player and the coach is lots more important than the player's opinions about degrees or locales or whatever.

Georgia State May take offense to that considering they’ve been the best basketball program in this state for the last 5+ years

GT has been one of if not the worst program in the ACC for the last decade.

CJP can’t recruit and the coaching looks suspect.

He’s here for another season or 2 regardless thanks to poor former AD decisions.

GT will embark on a new five year plan in 2021 or 2022.

I want to believe that our current AD is better. But, I do not understand why he extended Pastner's contract.

I can only imagine we just can't handle a football program initiative and a basketball initiative at the same time so just put the bball program on autopilot till football is back on track then Tstan can go scorched earth and start from scratch. Sometimes, with a dumpster fire, you are better off just letting it burn.

But, why extend the contract since no one is trying to hire Pastner?

It certainly appears as though a lot of players have to get paid to commit. I agree that’s probably where we are getting beat. But I have no proof to back this up
