Highly-touted Texas player has never really made much of a splash at Tech....hope this year will be different. Is the potential there, or was/is he overrated?
.
Gotta root for a kid who's full name is Jimmy Dixon.

Hard to say, If he was a tail back and actually got the ball I would be more positive. Of course he could have a breakout year at full back but it would not show up in the box score. If Ace or Grant are eating the yards up you will know that Dixon or whoever the full back is really doing an awesome job.

He has to get healthy. His health is still as question mark as he is coming off another spring injury.

No. He is much too heavy to become a RB of importance. The staff decided to beef him up to play FB a coupla yrs ago. He upped the weight load a good deal. Now, to play RB he'd have to slim down a lot.
The ankle injuries, especially this last broken one, has slowed him @ GT. The speed is not there, certainly not at 245 lbs.
Matthews appears to be a better FB anyway, so JD will be a part timer at best. Even if Matthews moves back to D, Dixon would have to outplay J Jackson to be the full time FB.
Dixon just got in between FB & RB which is now hard to get out of. Sorry, Dixon fans.

Ace may be right. He could be stuck between RB & FB with a bum ankle. Ankle injuries can be extremely hard to recover from. Hopefully he can contribute and perhaps surprise. (it could happen).
