Will Jonathan Smith throw out of the single wing?

We've lined Smith up at QB with Suggs as a flanker the last 2 games, but we've only run sprint out and QB draw plays. It reminds me of how UGA used Terrence Edwards against Auburn when Quincy was hurt a couple years ago. It worked the first couple times, but then the defense sent 8 or 9 guys because they knew he would just run it.

Smith was a high school QB. He showed that he's still got an arm against UGA and Stanford last year. I say if we use that formation against the Mutts, he should take one step up to fake the draw, then back up and launch it. You'd think nearly everyone would bite on the fake.

Any thoughts on this?

I thought the exact same thing during the last game. "You know, they're going to figure it out if you don't get Smith to throw it, Coach."

It doesn't really matter to me what play they run with Smith lined up as a QB, as long as it doesn't result in 2 points for the bad guys again...... hopefully they will have a chance to practice snaps over the 2 week break.

Go Jackets!

I think that we need to consider that option. The big play has been missing all year and that type of play could provide us with it. I honestly believe we will need at least 1-2 big plays to have a chance to win this game.

This will be the game that we see just how much our coaches have come together. You have two weeks to put together a game plan to beat your biggest rival on their home turf. We cannot afford to come out playing conservative and expect to win.

We can win this game but Gaily and the boys will need to play & coach with a "there is no tomorrow" attitude.

The snap was too early. Smith was still checking the defense when the ball was snapped. He was looking to his right and suddenly the ball went right by his head. Kind of funny to watch.

Smith is clearly faster than D-Bo, so "sinful" is not the right word. But the play has done its job. They've got EVERYONE (including you people) convinced he'll never throw the ball (another purpose of not putting D-Bo back there- makes throwing look less likely). I would not be at all suprised to see Jonathan throw a backwards pass to Suggs, who turns and fires downfield. It's also possible that Smith will throw it downfield himself. There are all kinds of things you can do with that play, and if nothing else, the defense knowing that, and you are just making them think too much (which can confuse them).

But, in the end, you have to realize that Jonathan averaged 5 yards a carry against FSU, all from that play, I believe. I didn't see the Duke game, but he only had two carries for one yard, against a Duke team bent on stopping the run (and I don't even know if that was the play or not).

If you want to throw it deep then throwing a backward pass to AJ is not a good start. Why ruin a good play? He may know the plays better but he cannot be counted on to throw the deep ball consistently.

Also, Bilbo is seemingly getting into Gailey's dog house (reason? I'm not exactly sure since I still smell a rat with what has been stated in public) and therefore he won't be given the chance to get back there. Plus, as mentioned, it would be a bigger surprise with Smith than Bilbo.

Nazz, with DB in there everyone thinks run so let him wing it like only he can! Also, his speed may be closer to Fred's than you think. His strength is much greater as he has moved the pile several times whereas Fred goes down with a swat. He's shifty for sure but not so effective up the middle. THWG

No, as several other Stingtalk posters have stated, lets put Bilbo in the game and run another quarterback draw.

Sparks of brilliance like that were what we saw earlier in the season. I still can't understand why he can't be out there because of athletic ability alone...
