winning can mask deficiencies that still exist
Offense scored 41
Offense gave up 10
sp teams gave up 7
Defense gave up 7
So basically our offense and sp teams essentially gave up more points than the defense. Before you pile on, I realize they didn't score off the blocked punt, but you can't ask a D to consistently stop teams getting the ball in your redzone.
WR dropped balls, no concentration, no Smith or JJ today? Were they injured? Are these guys getting coached? I have seen no improvement from that unit since the ND game...none...of course I haven't seen any improvement from the QB position either...
TB...ugh...TB...yes the WR dropped balls, but he missed, flat out missed wide open WRs and threw a poorly read INT. I don't get why josh only got 1 meaningful series; we won this game on the run, not in the air; we didn't need TB either way. Seems its ok to start true fresh for ineffective QBs at UGA and VT; Josh is highly rated, but isn't getting a chance. Yeah say he can't pass...how do you really know...you need a full body of work to judge that. 1-2 passes a game isn't fair to judge the mans ability. Point...this was the game to give him MORE of a chance and he didn't get one...at all.
Offensive line was far below avg in pass protection; but at least they didn't commit penalties...thats an improvement.
Secondary is bad. #23 should not be starting, #1 should be, but we will never see that change...#1 plays 30% of the plays, and has more tackles and more INTs than #23 who plays all downs. HUMMMMM??? What would you do?
Good run blocking and good run game. Looked really strong there....but we have vs weak teams.
Wildcat formation is getting old with me personally, but it still is working...at least vs duke...I expect UGA to stack that formation and shut it out.
Defense did play well, outside the long TD pass where #23 whiffed on the tackle after Avery got burnt. Two bad plays...on the same play.
Why doesn't any other CB, like Mario butler or dom reese get a chance? Can it be any worse? Maybe? If our CB's aren't playing well, why aren't we rolling S over more for help...we still leave these guys on an island...Stafford is having sweat dreams IMO.
UNC at noon...how is tech in noon games...not that good...that could be a loss, better be careful
UGA...just don't see how we have any chance there; but THATs why they play the game...or something like that
Preseason I predicted 8-4, worst we would do 7-5. Right now, 7-5 seems real, with the extreme at 8-4 or 6-6. 6-6 is more likely than 8-4.
tough next two weeks.
Anyway....it just seems this is the same team as in game 1. I just haven't seen improvement or progression really...and that is my main issue at this point.
